Yes—a larger HDTV can often sit in front of a smaller TV niche if a suitable wall mount brings the screen far enough forward and the wall can safely support the combined load. Whether it will work in your room depends on the niche and TV dimensions, wall construction, stud locations, and the TV’s weight and VESA pattern. Measure and verify those details before choosing a mount.
Measure the niche, TV and required clearance
Start with the actual opening and the screen, not the TV’s advertised diagonal size. Measure the niche’s width, height and depth, then measure the TV’s width and height. Check whether the larger screen will cover the opening when positioned in front of it, and note any trim, shelves or protruding edges that could interfere with movement.
Next, determine how far forward the screen must travel to clear the niche. Include any lip or obstruction the screen has to pass, and consider the mount’s movement through its full range—not just the distance between the wall and TV when the arm is fully extended. A long articulating arm may provide the needed clearance and allow swivel or tilt, but its stated extension alone does not prove that the TV will clear your specific opening.
Check the TV and wall before choosing a mount
- TV weight: Find the installed weight, including any accessories the mount will carry, and compare it with the mount’s stated capacity.
- VESA pattern: Measure or confirm the distance between the TV’s mounting holes. The mount must support that pattern.
- Mount limits: Check the model’s supported TV size and weight, VESA range, extension, tilt and swivel, and its required stud spacing.
- Wall construction: Identify the wall material and locate the framing or other structure to which the mount will attach. Confirm that the exact mount permits that wall type and provides appropriate fasteners.
TV size by itself is not enough to establish compatibility. Samsung advises using a VESA-compliant mount designed for the TV’s size and ensuring the wall can support the load. See Samsung’s TV mounting guidance.

Compare the two main mounting approaches

If the issue is stud spacing, an adapter may be an option only when it is compatible with the mount. Vogel’s lists the TVA 6950 for wooden studs spaced 16, 20 or 24 inches apart, with a stated maximum capacity of 75 kg, for compatible Vogel’s full-motion mounts. It is not a universal fix for unusual framing or other mount brands; check Vogel’s TVA 6950 details.
Plan the installation around the mount’s manual
- Record the measurements: Note the niche opening and depth, TV dimensions, required forward clearance, TV weight, VESA pattern, wall type and stud locations.
- Screen candidate mounts: Compare their supported TV size and weight, VESA range, stud spacing, extension and articulation with your measurements. Read the installation manual before purchase.
- Confirm the attachment surface: Follow the selected model’s specified wall types and fasteners. Do not assume that a mounting method permitted by one manufacturer is permitted by another.
- Lay out the screen position: Check that the TV will cover the niche as intended and can move without striking the opening, trim or nearby objects.
- Install and test as instructed: Use the manual’s procedure and appropriate tools for the wall material. If the wall structure or attachment method is uncertain, get qualified installation help.
Requirements vary by product. For example, the Secura QLF425-B2 manual says the product is designed only for installation into wood studs, solid concrete or concrete block, and says the wall must support five times the combined weight of the TV and mount. Those are instructions for that Secura model, not a universal rule for every TV mount. Read the Secura QLF425-B2 manual and the manual for the mount you select.

Samsung’s mounting guidance discusses drywall anchors where the wall can hold the TV, but that does not override the selected mount’s instructions. A product manual may prohibit drywall-only attachment, as the cited Secura manual does. Use the exact manual’s requirements for your installation.

Do not choose a mount based on the screen size or the niche opening alone. If you cannot confirm the TV’s weight or VESA pattern, identify the wall structure, or establish that the mount has enough clearance and is allowed for your wall type, pause before drilling. The available specifications cannot identify a compatible mount without those measurements and wall details.
