Universal Movers LLC’s California site describes local and long-distance moving, packing and unpacking, and warehouse storage. Its FAQ also lists senior relocation, international and interstate moves, junk removal, and storage. These are the company’s descriptions of its services, not independent performance findings. The FAQ names Sacramento, San Francisco, Los Angeles, San Diego, and surrounding California areas as service locations. It also says free estimates are available, including in-home or virtual walkthroughs. Use a walkthrough to describe what needs packing, what may go into storage, and when you expect to retrieve it; ask that the resulting estimate identify which services and charges are included.
How can using one provider make coordination easier?
When the same provider handles the move and storage, you can discuss the pickup, storage period, and delivery plan together rather than coordinating separate companies. That may reduce handoffs, but it does not establish that the service will be cheaper or more convenient in practice. Compare the written scope and total charges with alternatives before deciding.

Ask the estimator to document the sequence: what is collected, what goes into storage, where the remaining belongings are delivered, and how the stored items will be returned. If dates are uncertain, request the applicable change, rescheduling, and storage billing terms in writing.
What should you confirm about storage before signing?
The company pages reviewed describe warehouse storage but do not state current rates, minimum duration, access hours or process, inventory procedures, or the terms of protection or insurance. Do not assume a particular facility feature or coverage level. Request written answers to these questions:

- What is the storage rate and billing interval? Is there a minimum term or any pickup, delivery, handling, or access fee?
- Is access by appointment, and how much notice is required to retrieve specific belongings?
- How are items inventoried and protected? What valuation or insurance options apply while items are stored, and what exclusions or limits govern them?
- Are hazardous, perishable, unusually valuable, or oversized items restricted?
- What charges or procedures apply if the move-in or move-out date changes?
Make sure the estimate or storage agreement specifies the storage period, expected retrieval or delivery arrangements, and the charges that apply if the schedule changes. A general promise of storage is not a substitute for those terms.
Should you use the company’s packing service or pack yourself?
The FAQ says the company can supply boxes, packing paper, bubble wrap, and other materials, and that customers may pack their own belongings. Ask whether the estimate includes packing labor, materials, or both, and identify any items you will pack yourself. That helps prevent buying supplies already included in the quote or assuming a packing task is covered when it is not.

If you choose to self-pack, confirm whether the mover has requirements for labeling or preparing boxes that will be placed in storage. Keep an inventory of what you pack and what the company handles, particularly for belongings you will need to locate later.
When should you schedule the move?
The company FAQ recommends scheduling two to four weeks ahead, especially during peak seasons. Treat this as the company’s planning guidance, not a guarantee that a date will be available. Request an estimate early and get the pickup, storage, and delivery dates—or the process for changing them—confirmed in writing.

How do you verify the exact company and its authority?
Several California businesses have similar names. FMCSA’s household-goods search lists Universal Movers LLC in San Bruno separately from Universal Moving & Storage LLC in Hayward. The relevant company for this article is the California Universal Movers LLC associated with USDOT 2534165; do not treat similarly named businesses as interchangeable. Check the legal name and USDOT number on the estimate against the FMCSA California household-goods search.
In the FMCSA SAFER snapshot for USDOT 2534165, the USDOT status is listed as active, while operating-authority status reads “NOT AUTHORIZED.” The snapshot says its information reflects 2026-09-28. FMCSA’s Safety Measurement System page also says the carrier has no current for-hire operating authority with FMCSA and cautions that SMS data alone should not be used to draw conclusions about overall safety. An active USDOT number is not the same as current for-hire operating authority.

If your move crosses state lines, check current FMCSA records and confirm that the exact legal carrier and authority apply to the interstate household-goods service you are arranging before booking. The SAFER snapshot and SMS page are records that can change; verify them again at the time you book. Confirm the contracting entity and contact details directly, since the company site and federal records may show differing address or contact information. The similarly named Universal Moving & Storage site is not a substitute for verifying the identity of the carrier in your agreement.
How should you compare this option with alternatives?
Use the same checklist for each written quote so that a combined moving-and-storage offer can be compared on scope, not just its headline price.
