Before ordering, confirm compatibility in the saw and kit manuals; then use those instructions for disassembly, hardware, blade length, and final adjustments. A “14-inch bandsaw” label alone does not establish that a riser block will fit.
What a riser block changes
The block fits between compatible sections of the bandsaw frame, raising the upper wheel and guide assembly. This creates more vertical clearance for taller stock. The amount of added capacity and the blade length required depend on the saw and kit, so examples from one setup should not be applied to another.
- WOOD Magazine describes adding 6 inches of capacity to a 14-inch cast-iron bandsaw in its 2025 example: WOOD Magazine’s installation overview.
- For the G0580 with Grizzly’s H7316 kit, Grizzly’s 2024 manual specifies an increase from 6 inches to 12 inches of cutting capacity and a blade-length change from 93.5 inches to 105 inches: Grizzly H7316 manual.
These are manufacturer- or publisher-specific figures, not a universal riser-block result.
Check compatibility before buying
Match the kit to the bandsaw’s exact model, frame design, kit revision, and guide-post arrangement. The available documentation identifies Grizzly H7316 for the G0580 and Grizzly H3051 for the G0555/G0555X; JET and Powermatic also publish separate kit instructions. A shared nominal size, such as 14 inches, is not enough to confirm fit.

- Designed to fit JET 14" Bandsaw (708115K)
- Increases depth of cut from 6" maximum to 12" maximum
- Includes 6" cast block, long frame bolt, front and back blade guards, 7/8" Guide Post, and 105" blade
- Backed by JET's industry-leading one-year warranty against manufacturing defects
Check the current manufacturer documentation before ordering. The H3051 model and kit details reported on Grizzly’s listing should be treated as provisional until confirmed against its live product page or manual. Do not assume that a kit intended for a cast-iron frame fits a welded steel-frame saw.
Blade and kit differences
Blade length is specific to the saw-and-kit combination. The manufacturer documents give these examples:
Rank #2
- 6-Inch Riser Block
- Extended Guide Post
- Extended guard
- 105-Inch by 3/8-Inch - 6 tpi blade
- Hardware and Instructions Included
| Kit and saw | Blade information | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Grizzly H7316 on G0580 | 105-inch blade; the manual gives the original length as 93.5 inches. | Grizzly, 2024 |
| JET JRB-14 | 105.5-inch blade included with the kit. | JET JRB-14 manual |
| Powermatic PRB14 | 105-inch blade listed for the kit. | Powermatic, 2009 |
Use the exact blade length and width specified for your model and kit; do not choose from this table by bandsaw size alone. Compare whether the kit includes a longer guide post, extended guards, and mounting hardware, and whether its instructions require wiring or switch changes or wheel-alignment checks.
Prepare safely
Get the exact operator’s manual and riser-kit instructions before starting. They govern the disassembly sequence, hardware, adjustment procedures, and any model-specific wiring or alignment work. Disconnect the bandsaw from power before maintenance. The manufacturer manuals warn that the upper arm is heavy and call for support or assistance while it is removed and reinstalled.

- Relieve blade tension, open the wheel covers, and remove the blade. Remove the table pin and insert where the manual directs.
- Gather the tools listed for your kit. For example, JET lists a 26 mm combination wrench, a 15/16-inch socket and ratchet, a #1 cross-point screwdriver, an adjustable wrench, and a hex-wrench set. Powermatic specifies additional wrench sizes and a rubber mallet or hammer with a wood block.
- Before disassembly, note the routing and position of cables and components. Do not disconnect or reroute wiring unless the kit instructions require it.
Install the block and reassemble
This is a cross-model outline, not a substitute for the instructions for your saw and kit. Follow the manufacturer’s sequence wherever it differs.
- Make the saw safe. Disconnect power, remove the blade, and remove guards, switch parts, cable clamps, or other components only as directed by the kit manual.
- Support the upper assembly. Arrange assistance to hold the upper frame or arm before loosening its main fastener. Remove the fastener and lift the assembly clear with help.
- Position the riser. Seat the block on the lower frame’s alignment pins and orient it according to any arrow or mark in the instructions.
- Secure the upper frame. Lower the upper assembly onto the block’s alignment pins. Install the supplied long bolt, washers, nut, or other kit hardware, and tighten as specified by the kit instructions. Do not substitute a generic torque value.
- Refit guards and the longer guide post. Install the extended guards and supplied post using the manual’s method. JET warns that removing the guide post without advancing its replacement directly into place can allow a spring and steel ball to be lost.
- Install and set up the blade. Fit the blade specified for the exact saw-and-kit combination. Tension and track it, then adjust both blade guides and check wheel alignment if the manual directs.
- Finish before restoring power. Close the wheel covers and reinstall the table pin and insert. Check that the blade guard covers the blade at the selected guide-post height, then follow the operator’s manual for any remaining checks before reconnecting power.
Verify the finished setup
Before using the saw, confirm that the assembly is secure and that the blade runs properly. Use the bandsaw’s own manual for the correct tension, tracking, guide clearances, and any alignment procedure; these settings vary by model. Do not operate the saw with covers or guards removed.
