For a Kenmore Series 500 washer, start with the complete model number—not just “Series 500.” The full number identifies the correct manual and helps prevent using another washer’s error-code chart, diagnostic steps, or replacement-part information.
Identify your washer before troubleshooting
- Find and record the complete model number. “Series 500” alone is not specific enough to identify the washer’s exact instructions or compatible parts.

If the washer will not spin or clothes are left wet
Check load balance and cycle selection
Consider whether the washer is overloaded or the load is badly unbalanced. If the model offers a drain/spin option, consult its manual for the appropriate selection.
Treat component faults as possibilities, not conclusions
RepairClinic’s guidance for a specific Kenmore model lists an unbalanced or overloaded load as one possible reason for poor spinning and a drain-pump fault as another. Those possibilities do not establish the cause for every Series 500 washer. If the washer fills slowly, stops mid-cycle, or shows a code
Record the exact code and the point in the cycle when the problem occurs, then consult the manual for the complete model number. There is no universal Series 500 code list established here: code behavior can depend on the washer’s build and model family.
