How Haier and Fisher & Paykel are related
Fisher & Paykel is not another name for Haier. It remains a distinct brand in Haier’s portfolio. The ownership connection developed over several years, according to Haier’s corporate announcements.
Ownership timeline
- 2009: Haier announced that it would take a 20% stake in Fisher & Paykel Appliances as part of a recapitalization plan. The companies also announced a cooperation agreement covering areas including design, technology, planning, manufacturing coordination, sourcing and after-sales services. Haier’s June 1, 2009 announcement described Fisher & Paykel as a New Zealand appliance manufacturer.
- September 2012: Haier said it had held approximately 20% since 2009 and announced its intention to increase its stake. Its September 11, 2012 announcement set out that intention.
- November 6, 2012: Haier said its New Zealand investment holding company held 90% or more of Fisher & Paykel Appliances Holdings and would commence compulsory acquisition of the remaining shares under takeover rules. The announcement reports that threshold and planned process; it is not, by itself, an exact date for completion of the acquisition of every remaining share.
- Current portfolio listing: Haier’s company introduction includes Fisher & Paykel among its global brands. The page states company data current through July 2026. See Haier’s company introduction.
What the brand distinction means
Haier’s materials present Fisher & Paykel as one of several brands in its portfolio, rather than as a synonym for Haier. The names therefore identify distinct consumer-facing appliance brands, even though Haier owns and controls Fisher & Paykel.

The corporate relationship answers who owns Fisher & Paykel; it does not make the two brands interchangeable when choosing an appliance. Model features, service arrangements and availability depend on the specific product and market, so those questions require current, product-level information rather than the ownership history alone.
