In Architectural Digest’s 2021 tour, Vanessa Hudgens’s Los Feliz home feels less like a conventional Los Angeles house than a private escape: an ivy-covered Georgian colonial surrounded by olive trees, with rooms shaped by old-house character, vintage finds and a strong connection to the garden. Hudgens said walking through its gate made her feel transported to France or Italy.
What is the Little DeMille?
The Little DeMille is the name Architectural Digest used for Hudgens’s Los Feliz home in its 7 November 2021 feature. The magazine described it as a Georgian colonial built in 1922 by filmmaker Cecil B. DeMille, purportedly for his mistress, and reported that actor Gary Oldman owned it before Hudgens. That colorful provenance is the feature’s account; it should not be treated as independently verified fact.
Hudgens told the magazine she had spent five years searching for a Georgian colonial. She was drawn to historic homes, and her inspiration board was filled with them. The house’s ivy, olive trees, quirks and accumulated character mattered as much as its style: “To me, there’s something so romantic about that, a home with character and quirks,” she said. The article also notes Art Deco air vents, a chandelier above the staircase and 18th-century French oak floors installed by Oldman.
How the renovation balanced old character with personal choices
A focused update to the primary suite
After purchasing the house in 2018, Hudgens hired designer Jake Arnold to remodel the primary suite. The tour presents the work as an update within a home whose historic atmosphere was part of its appeal, rather than a wholesale departure from it.

A kitchen refresh Hudgens led herself
During the pandemic, Hudgens took on the kitchen refresh herself. She added new marble, painted the cabinets and selected brass knobs and drawer pulls. She credited Ashley Tisdale with advice on where to shop. The result pairs a familiar older-house setting with a few deliberate material and hardware changes.
Vintage pieces gave the living room its personality
Hudgens initially pictured a white, monochromatic living room and ordered a large white linen sofa from RH. A vintage pink mohair sofa changed her mind. Tisdale introduced her to the green armchairs, creating a room with more color and a collected, less coordinated feel. The feature also identifies a silver gelatin print by Peter Tomka. Lawrence of La Brea rugs appear throughout the home, while the dining-room chandelier was a 1stdibs find.

Those choices make the rooms feel assembled around objects with distinct histories and textures, rather than around a single matching set. The tour calls the overall sensibility a “femme palace”; the vintage upholstery and varied furnishings help explain that description without disguising the house’s older architectural bones.
The garden is part of how the house works
The outdoor areas are not merely a backdrop. Hudgens said much of her entertaining happened outside, in a yard the feature describes as feeling like a park. She mentioned two grapefruit trees and an avocado tree, details that give the garden a practical, lived-in quality alongside its visual appeal.

Artist Carly Kuhn, known as the Cartorialist, painted a mural of faces around the pool. The ivy and olive trees had first helped create the sense of arrival Hudgens associated with France or Italy; the poolside art and outdoor dinners extend that personal identity into the landscape.
A primary bath designed as a retreat
Hudgens described the bathroom as “a sexy cave,” and the deep ceramic bathtub is its center of gravity. She imagined soaking with the windows open, French music drifting in and candles burning: “I fell in love with the idea of sitting in this deep, ceramic bathtub with the windows open, hearing the French music outside waft up through the windows, watching the candlesticks burn.” It is a small, atmospheric ritual that captures the home’s larger purpose in her account: a place that could transport her without leaving Los Feliz.

What the 2021 tour does—and does not—establish
The home’s details and Hudgens’s descriptions here come from Sheila Yasmin Marikar’s Architectural Digest feature published 7 November 2021, supplemented by the magazine’s official video transcript page released 18 August 2026. In that video, Hudgens described wanting the house to feel “really French” and called the ivy one of her favorite things. Neither source establishes who owns or lives in the property now, so the tour is best understood as a portrait of the home during the period it covered.
