Clean the indoor filter first, then reset the reminder using the control sequence for your model. Samsung’s guidance varies by filter type, remote and region, so check your exact model’s manual if the steps below do not match.
What does CF mean on a Samsung air conditioner?
Samsung describes CF as a reminder that the indoor air filter needs cleaning. A dusty filter can restrict the air drawn into the unit, which may affect temperature and noise. The display alone does not establish that the air conditioner needs repair. Samsung Latinoamérica’s CF guidance recommends cleaning the filter every two weeks or when CF appears; treat that as general guidance, since the exact filter instructions and operating conditions can differ.
Clean the filter before resetting CF
For the removable filter covered by Samsung’s CF cleaning guide, use this sequence. If your filter or manual specifies a different method, follow the model-specific instructions instead.
- Turn the unit off and remove the indoor filter as described in your model’s manual.
- Gently remove loose dust with a soft brush or vacuum. Do not use a hard-bristle brush, which can damage the filter.
- If the manual allows washing, soak the filter in water with mild detergent for 30 minutes, then rinse it.
- Air-dry the filter fully in a ventilated place away from direct sunlight. Do not reinstall it while damp.
- Reinstall the dry filter as directed by the manual.
Samsung’s filter-cleaning instructions describe this method for the filter type they cover. Samsung’s regional guidance notes that filter designs and cleaning procedures vary; do not assume every Samsung filter can be washed.

Reset the CF reminder on your remote
Once the filter has been cleaned and reinstalled, try the sequence that matches your control. The air conditioner should be operating for the wireless-remote sequence described in Samsung’s guidance.
- Some wireless remotes: Press Options, use the arrow buttons to select Filter Reset, then press SET. Samsung Latinoamérica documents this sequence.
- Some wired remotes: Press the dedicated Filter Reset button if your model has one.
- Other controls: Some models use Settings or another menu path. Samsung India also documents Options > Filter Reset > SET for applicable models in its error-code guidance.
These controls are not universal. Samsung’s regional error-code guidance and Samsung Africa support describe differences among models and procedures. If you cannot find the named option, look up the user manual by the air conditioner’s exact model number rather than trying an unrelated reset.

If CF remains on the display
- Check that the filter is the correct one for your unit, fully dry and reinstalled correctly.
- Confirm the remote sequence in the exact model’s manual; a missing menu option may mean your model uses a different control.
- If error codes continue to appear after the appropriate maintenance and reset, contact a Samsung service center or qualified service provider, as advised in Samsung’s error-code guidance.
Samsung’s available guidance does not establish that CF alone signals a fault requiring repair. Replace a filter only if it is damaged or the model’s instructions call for replacement, and verify the correct part for your unit.
