Home Designer Architectural is a legacy PC home-design program, not the name of Chief Architect’s current DIY product. Architectural was last released in the 2025 edition; beginning with the 2026 edition, Chief Architect consolidated its DIY lineup under the name Home Designer. If you need a new purchase, check the current product’s download terms and requirements rather than assuming an Architectural download or license is still available.
Is Home Designer Architectural still available as a PC download?
Chief Architect’s product history says the separate Suite, Architectural, and Professional editions were last released with the 2025 version. Starting with the 2026 version, the company consolidated the DIY line into one product called Home Designer. The publisher describes the change as a move “to provide the very best product to our DIY customers.” See Chief Architect’s product information.
That means “Home Designer Architectural” is a legacy edition name. The available information does not establish whether new Architectural licenses can still be purchased, or whether an existing license qualifies for an upgrade or transfer. For a new purchase, investigate the current Home Designer product and confirm its licensing and download terms with Chief Architect.
Which PC requirements should you use?
Use requirements for the edition you intend to run. The current Home Designer requirements apply to the consolidated product; they should not be applied retroactively to an installed copy of Architectural 2025. For that legacy version, consult the separate Home Designer 2025 system requirements.

These are the current product’s published specifications, not a guarantee of identical performance on every PC. The vendor says Physically Based rendering requires a ray-tracing-compatible video card. Windows ARM devices, including Snapdragon PCs, are unsupported. Check the current system requirements for the full, up-to-date graphics details before buying or upgrading a computer.
Architectural 2025
The legacy 2025 requirements list Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit; 16 GB RAM; 5 GB available storage; and supported graphics. Chief Architect says it will not support configurations that are absent from its listed requirements. Check its legacy requirements page for the specific 2025 version rather than relying on current Home Designer recommendations.

What internet access and setup does it require?
For current Home Designer, internet access is required for installation, license authentication and deactivation, video, and access to the library catalog. License authentication is required once every 14 days. Include reliable internet access in your setup plan, particularly if the computer is used at a jobsite or in a location with intermittent connectivity.
- Confirm whether you are installing legacy Architectural 2025 or the current Home Designer product.
- Check the matching system requirements page, including your specific graphics hardware and operating-system architecture.
- Confirm that your PC meets the minimums; treat the listed higher memory and storage figures as recommendations, not minimums.
- Use Chief Architect’s download and installation guidance for the applicable version, and make sure internet access is available for the required setup and license functions.
How did Architectural compare with Suite and Professional?
Chief Architect’s comparison matrix distinguishes the former Suite, Architectural, and Professional editions by feature. It was updated in October 2024 and describes the 2025 product family, not the consolidated 2026-or-later lineup. Check the matrix against the particular tools you need; it does not support a blanket conclusion that Architectural is the best edition for every project.
