Its fit, sleeping width, height and price depend on the truck and the selected frame; the manufacturer lists a starting price of $17,000 for a mid-size shell and components. Before ordering, confirm the build dimensions, completed weight, truck payload and current quote directly with Hiatus.
How the Hiatus Camper unfolds
Unlike a soft-sided pop-up, the Hiatus uses what its manufacturer describes as a patented insulated composite folding-wall system, supported by an insulated lower aluminum frame. With the roof raised, the walls create a hard-sided interior with standing room. The product page lists lift-assist gas struts, windows with screens, a non-powered roof vent, a side access door and locking latches among the standard equipment.
Hiatus says one person can raise or lower the camper in fewer than 30 seconds. That is the manufacturer’s claim, not an independently timed test. Its FAQ also says roof racks must be cleared of added weight before raising: the struts are tuned for the roof itself, and lifting with cargo attached may prevent proper operation and could cause damage or injury.
Choose the configuration around your truck
Hiatus publishes four combinations of truck size and lower-frame style. The vertical lower frame increases the listed sleeping-area width; on mid-size builds it also provides more interior height than the angled frame. Full-size configurations have the same published interior-height range for either frame style. These are manufacturer specifications, and actual dimensions can vary with the truck and build.

All figures in the table are published by Hiatus Campers on its product page, accessed October 8, 2026. Its FAQ says sleeping length can be customized and describes extending the standard bed platform to 80 inches. The FAQ gives standard widths of 50 inches for mid-size and 57 inches for full-size, with vertical frames adding 11 inches. Confirm the dimensions for the exact truck and order rather than treating a listed range as a guaranteed finished measurement.
Check fit, clearance and payload
Hiatus says it customizes campers for standard 5-, 6- and 8-foot pickup beds and has built for a range of mid-size and full-size trucks. Its FAQ describes removable J- or C-clamps that secure the camper base to the truck-bed rails. Those general statements do not establish fit for every truck configuration: cab, bed, rail and other vehicle dimensions can affect installed fit and height. Have Hiatus confirm compatibility for the specific make, model, year and bed.

The FAQ says a closed camper generally adds 16–19 inches above the truck’s cab roof and warns that most units will not fit standard-height garages. Measure the truck with the camper installed, including any roof equipment, and compare that measurement with the actual garage opening before relying on indoor storage.
The listed shell weights are not the weight of every finished setup. Hiatus says custom interiors and added features affect total weight. Compare the completed camper and the combined weight of occupants, cargo and accessories with the payload capacity for the specific truck; the cited manufacturer pages do not establish payload limits for individual vehicles.

What it costs and how ordering works
Hiatus’s FAQ, accessed October 8, 2026, lists a starting price of $17,000 for a mid-size truck-camper shell and components. That is a starting price, not a quote for every size or option. The manufacturer says buyers make an initial $500 payment toward a required 50% security deposit. When the order is ready for production, the buyer finalizes add-ons, receives a formal quote and pays the remainder of that deposit; the balance is due on installation day. Hiatus describes the security deposit as non-refundable.
Before paying, request a current written quote and contract that identify the selected configuration and options, total price, lead time, taxes, delivery or pickup arrangements, payment schedule and applicable warranty terms. The FAQ states a two-year repair-or-replace warranty, with terms in the purchase service agreement; the agreement and its exclusions are not detailed on the cited FAQ page.

Standard equipment and optional upgrades
The product page lists the folding wall system, windows and screens, insulated lower aluminum frame, lift-assist gas struts, non-powered roof vent, side access door, locking latches, Yakima tracks and a sliding sleeping platform with cushions as standard equipment. Listed upgrades include a vertical lower frame, double rear doors, additional windows or a side door, Yakima crossbars, a Batwing awning, overhead LED lights, a Maxxair fan, a Goal Zero battery package and a propane system with a safety kit and Camco Wave 3 catalytic heater.
Confirm exactly what is included in the quote. Hiatus’s product-details page names a Goal Zero Yeti 1500X, while its mobile features page names a Yeti 1000X; the pages therefore do not establish which model is currently supplied. The same care applies to accessory compatibility and load limits. In particular, the manufacturer says to remove added weight from roof racks before opening the camper.

Questions to settle before placing an order
- Has Hiatus confirmed the camper for the exact truck year, make, model, bed and rail setup?
- What are the finished camper’s dimensions and weight with the selected options?
- Will the truck remain within its payload capacity with occupants, cargo and accessories aboard?
- Does the closed height clear the intended garage or other storage space?
- Which sleeping-platform width and length, equipment and battery model are included in the written quote?
- What are the current lead time, payment terms, installation arrangements and warranty conditions?
