Build a garden-themed Halloween candy display with wrapped sweets, a simple serving vessel, and seasonal decorations: use candy-corn colors for a flower-bed pattern, white candy for a ghost, orange sweets for a pumpkin patch, or a black bowl as a witch’s cauldron. For a larger gathering, arrange the candy on a tray or board. Keep the food display separate from craft materials and protect outdoor treats from leaves, soil, wind, and moisture.
Choose a display that fits the gathering
A single bowl or cauldron makes a compact centerpiece for a porch or patio table. A flat tray, board, baking sheet, or parchment-covered surface gives you room to create a larger spread. Hersheyland’s candy-dish guide and Halloween board guide offer the basic display formats; the garden touches below are ways to adapt them.
- Small candy stop: Use one bowl or black cauldron-style vessel, with wrapped candy piled inside.
- Party table: Use a tray or board as the base, then add small bowls or ramekins to separate loose items and create height.
- Garden setting: Let pumpkins and seasonal plants sit around the display as background decoration, not as ingredients. Keep all candy in clean serving containers.
Four candy displays with a garden twist
1. Candy-corn flower bed
Arrange wrapped sweets in orange, white, and black or purple bands on a shallow tray or in a wide dish. The color blocks can suggest rows in a flower bed; arranging them as petals is another creative option. Hersheyland describes using wrapper colors to make candy-corn-inspired designs, including orange, white, black, and purple. Keep the pieces wrapped so guests can take them without handling neighboring candy.
2. Ghosts among the plants
On a round or oval dish, use white foil-wrapped sweets as the ghost shape and dark wrapped pieces for eyes and a mouth. A green or orange border can give the design a garden-bed edge. Set the dish near decorative plants, but do not invite guests to sample live plants or mix foliage into the candy.

3. Pumpkin patch bowl
Fill an orange or black bowl with orange-wrapped candy or pumpkin-shaped sweets. A few purple-wrapped pieces can form a face on the front of the display. Place a mini pumpkin nearby to connect the bowl to the garden theme without crowding the serving area.
4. Witch’s garden cauldron
Use a black cauldron-style bowl as the centerpiece and fill it with wrapped candy. Hersheyland suggests fruit-flavored choices such as TWIZZLERS Twists or JOLLY RANCHER Gummies; treat those as flavor and presentation options, not a health claim. Keep the vessel covered or bring it indoors if weather, leaves, soil, or moisture could reach the candy.

Make a larger garden char-boo-terie board
For a group, choose a flat tray, board, baking sheet, or parchment surface. Place a mini cauldron or pumpkin near the center as an anchor, then arrange candy around it. Use plants as decoration, not food
Seasonal plants can frame the table, but they should remain separate from candy intended to be eaten. The Associated Press’s 2023 article on spooky garden plants identifies pumpkin-on-a-stick as an ornamental eggplant, not a pumpkin. Its orange fruits can be displayed in a vase or bowl; the article says cut stems placed in water can last two to four weeks. That is display guidance, not a claim that the plant is edible or suitable for every climate.

The same AP article notes that bat flower is a subtropical plant suited to frost-free settings and that doll’s eye, also called white baneberry, is toxic. If you decorate with live plants, consider local growing conditions and keep toxic plants away from children and pets. Do not place unknown foliage or plant parts where guests could mistake them for food.
Keep craft decorations separate from treats
A pumpkin decorated with candy can be a separate party craft, but it is not a serving dish. Hersheyland’s pumpkin-decorating instructions warn that candy attached with hot glue is no longer edible. Keep glue, toothpicks, and other craft materials away from the candy spread, and label the finished pumpkin as decoration rather than food.

When to assemble and where to serve
Hersheyland’s board guide says dry items such as candy, crackers, and popcorn can be prepared a day ahead. It recommends adding fruit and dips near serving time, refrigerating perishable ingredients, and assembling the complete board one to two hours before serving for freshness. That guidance is for an indoor food board; it does not establish an outdoor food-safety timeline. For a garden or porch display, keep candy protected from weather and contamination, and bring it inside if you cannot keep it clean and dry.
