For a small lawn where low perceived noise and automated mowing matter, the GARDENA SILENO city 500 m² Bluetooth model is a plausible fit on paper. GARDENA lists its perceived sound level as 57 dB(A), but that is a manufacturer specification—not an independent noise test or a promise that neighbors will not hear it. This review covers the Canadian-listed Bluetooth model, article 15002-41; it is not a hands-on test.
Is the SILENO city quiet enough for a small garden?
GARDENA gives the 500 m² Bluetooth listing a perceived sound level of 57 dB(A). That makes quiet operation a stated product attribute, but the figure alone cannot predict how noticeable the mower will be at a particular property. Distance, barriers, background sound and when it runs all affect what household members or neighbors hear. The product page does not provide an independent comparative noise test.
The figure applies to the specified listing, not automatically to every SILENO city generation or configuration. GARDENA’s separate UK smart SILENO city 500 m² set also lists 57 dB(A), but neither product-page figure establishes which variant is quieter in real use.
Which SILENO city model does this review cover?
The main model is the Canadian regional listing for the standard Bluetooth GARDENA SILENO city, 500 m², article 15002-41 (EAN 4078500046930). Capacity, slopes and mowing schedule
GARDENA rates this model for lawns up to 500 m². Its listed maximum slope is 35% within the installation and 10% at the boundary. Those are distinct limits: a sloped area inside the lawn and the edge where the mower must operate are not interchangeable cases. A garden with steep edges may exceed the stated boundary figure even if its interior slopes are within the 35% rating.
The listing gives a typical charge time of 60 minutes and typical mowing time per charge of 65 minutes. It also states a daily active time of 12 hours for maximum capacity and mean monthly energy use of 4 kWh at maximum use. These are manufacturer values, not a guaranteed schedule or energy bill for every lawn; actual operating needs depend on the site and use.

Cutting and cleaning
The mower has three pivoting razor blades, a 16 cm cutting width and adjustable cutting height from 20 to 50 mm. GARDENA describes it as cleanable with a garden hose. Does it need boundary wire?
Yes. The 500 m² Bluetooth model uses a physical boundary wire, so it is not a wire-free installation. GARDENA’s listed package includes a charging station, 150 m of boundary cable, 200 hooks, four connectors and five connection clamps. The kit is a starting point for installation; layout still matters, particularly at edges, slopes and narrow passages.

GARDENA says CorridorCut can handle narrow spaces and passages as narrow as 60 cm. That is a product-page capability, not a guarantee that every passage or approach in a particular garden will work equally well. Measure the route and plan the wire layout before choosing the mower.
Bluetooth SILENO city vs. smart SILENO city
The standard Bluetooth model and the smart model are separate products. The Canadian Bluetooth listing says control through the GARDENA Bluetooth app works from up to 10 m and requires online registration. The separate UK smart SILENO city 500 m² set, reference 19602-68 (EAN 4078500063500), includes a smart gateway in addition to the charging station and boundary-wire kit. Its listed features include remote GARDENA smart App management, LONA mapping, zone management, no-mow areas and real-time location tracking. - Tilt the protective cover on the charging station forward and connect the low voltage cable to the charging station & the transformer power supply adapter. Do not put the low-voltage cable in a coil or below the charging station plate. The coil causes interference with the signal from the charging station.
- Lay the low-voltage cable so that the blades on the blade plate can not touch it. The low voltage cable must be anchored or buried in the lawn. Do not use a trimmer nearby the low voltage cable.
How to decide whether it fits your garden
- Measure the lawn area. Compare the mowable area with the 500 m² manufacturer rating rather than relying on the property’s total lot size.
- Check slopes separately. Assess interior slopes against the listed 35% limit and boundary slopes against the lower 10% limit.
- Plan the wire route. Decide whether you can install and secure physical boundary wire, and check passage widths and edges. GARDENA lists CorridorCut for passages as narrow as 60 cm.
- Choose the control system. The standard model’s Bluetooth control is listed for up to 10 m; consider the separately packaged smart set if you want remote management and LONA features.
- Consider schedule and upkeep. Compare the listed charge and mowing times with your expectations, and account for blade replacement and cleaning. Confirm the exact article number and generation before buying replacement blades or additional wire; the cited pages do not identify a compatible spare-blade part number.
What does independent review evidence establish?
The available public third-party listing from CHOICE concerns an older, discontinued 700 m² entry, not the current 500 m² Bluetooth model reviewed here. CHOICE’s visible listing gives that older product as 700 m², 25% incline, 16 cm width, 58 dB and 7.3 kg; its expert rating and test scores are behind membership access.
