For Furrion FWH09A-family tankless RV water heaters, start by recording any wall-controller error code, then switch the heater off, wait five seconds, and switch it back on once. If the fault remains, use the code-specific checks below and contact Furrion or a dealer for persistent system faults. Before maintenance, shut off electrical and LP supplies and let the appliance cool. Internal gas or appliance repairs belong to a certified service technician.
This guide covers models FWH09A, FWH09A-AM, FWH09AFA, FWH09AFA-AM, and FWH09AFA-AB in Furrion/Lippert service manual CCD-0009617, revision 10.05.26. Confirm the model on your unit before applying these codes; other Furrion water-heater models may use different procedures. See the Furrion/Lippert Troubleshooting and Service Manual and Lippert’s water-heater support page.
Before troubleshooting: make the appliance safe
- Record the wall-controller code before resetting so you can report it if the fault returns.
- Turn off electrical and LP supplies and let the heater cool before maintenance. Do not open or service gas components yourself.
- Keep the air inlet and exhaust clear. Exhaust is hot and contains carbon monoxide; never obstruct it or breathe it.
- Do not operate the pressure-relief valve while the unit is hot, or remove the drain plug while the unit is hot or pressurized.
The service manual says repairs must be performed by a certified service technician. If a code persists after its basic checks or the one reset below, stop and contact Furrion, your dealer, or a qualified RV service provider.
How to reset a Furrion error code
- Write down the code shown on the wall controller.
- Switch the heater’s front power switch to OFF.
- Wait five seconds, then switch it back on.
- If the code returns, follow the relevant check below. Do not keep resetting a recurring fault in place of service.
Furrion tankless RV water heater error codes
The following descriptions and actions apply to the FWH09A-family models named in service manual CCD-0009617, revision 10.05.26. Lippert’s RV Water Heater Troubleshooting Guide also lists these codes.
#1 Best Overall
- INSTANT HOT WATER — 2.4 gallons of hot water delivered to your RV faucets per minute and 60,000 BTU means your tankless hot water heater will keep up with the demands of a busy family
- CONSISTENT TEMP — Equipped with Vortex technology to prevent cold spots and scalding, water is premixed before coming to the tap, resulting in consistent temps
- SAFETY FEATURES — This water heater is engineered with advanced safety features such as pressure relief valve, over temp protection, blower block protection and auto shut off
- INTELLIGENT CONTROL — The included sleek wall thermostat allows you to set and view your water temperature, time and pressure level and alerts you with an error code when the pressure is low
- EASY TO UPGRADE — Designed to retrofit and upgrade limited capacity tank water heaters in a variety of sizes
| Code | Manual description and likely cause | Safe first check | When to escalate |
|---|---|---|---|
| E0 | Water outlet temperature system fault | Record the code and perform the single five-second reset. | Contact Furrion if it remains. |
| E1 | Flame sense during ignition; insufficient fuel, low inlet pressure, or system fault | Confirm the LP tank has fuel and the gas valves are open. Do not adjust the regulator or repair gas components. | Have qualified service check low inlet pressure; contact Furrion for a system fault or repeated code. |
| E2 | False-flame signal detected; system fault | Record the code and perform the single reset. | Contact Furrion if it returns. |
| E3 | Over-temperature mechanical sensor fault | Run cold water for 10–20 seconds, then restart the heater. | Contact Furrion if the code persists. |
| E4 | Water inlet temperature system fault | Record the code and perform the single reset. | Contact Furrion if it remains. |
| E5 | Air pressure fault; possible exhaust blockage, high wind, or system fault | From a safe position, check for an obvious exhaust obstruction. If strong wind is blowing directly into the exhaust, reposition the RV if practical. | Contact Furrion if unresolved. Never block the exhaust. |
| E6 | Temperature surge; possible cold-water surge or mixing, inadequate water supply or flow, or system fault | Reduce simultaneous cold-water use; check the fresh-water supply, possible hot/cold crossover, air in the lines, inlet screen, and faucet flow. | Contact Furrion if the fault persists after these checks. |
| E7 | Solenoid valve fault; system fault | Record the code and perform the single reset. | Contact Furrion if it returns. |
Diagnose the symptom when there is no useful code
No hot water at the tap
Check that the heater has power, the LP supply is available, and fresh water is reaching the RV. If those supplies are on and the heater still does not produce hot water, read any displayed code and use the code table rather than opening the appliance.
Hot water takes longer than expected
A cold-to-hot crossover can send cold water into the hot side. Check for a mixing valve or crossover at inside and outside fixtures, including the shower head. Lippert also lists very cold incoming water and high elevation as possible contributors. Its guide says Furrion heaters were tested up to 4,500 feet and recommends contacting Furrion for prolonged use above that elevation; this is a manufacturer statement, not an independent test.

Low hot-water flow
Hard-water lime scale can reduce flow. The inlet filter screen may also be plugged. Follow the model manual’s decalcification procedure for scale, and use the screen-cleaning steps under maintenance below. Do not improvise chemical treatments.
Water is not hot enough
The service manual lists low gas flow or inlet pressure, water flow that is too high for the incoming-water conditions, excessive scale, or cold water mixing into the hot side as possible causes. It identifies 11 in. wc as the low-pressure condition to investigate; have a qualified technician check gas pressure and consult the RV documentation about supply capacity and installation. Do not adjust gas supply components yourself.

Water appears at the pressure-relief valve
The manual identifies excessive system pressure or lime and dirt under the valve seat as possible causes. For this troubleshooting case, it specifies a maximum pump pressure of 65 PSI and a pressure reducer when central water supply exceeds 65 PSI. Never inspect or operate the valve while the appliance is hot or pressurized; ask a qualified technician if the cause is not obvious.
Clean the inlet screen safely
Only do this when the heater is cool and isolated from electrical and LP supplies, following the exact manual for your model.

- Flush debris from the screen; do not damage it.
- Reinstall the screen and cover, replace the baffle, and close the door.
The manual lists 0.32 GPM as the minimum faucet flow for the heater’s operation. If the screen is clean and flow remains inadequate, or an E6 fault continues, seek service rather than dismantling the water system or heater.

Use the RV manufacturer’s winterization procedure together with the heater manual. If blowing out the heater with compressed air, the manual says not to exceed 50 PSI. Do not substitute an improvised procedure or chemical for the model-specific instructions.

When a technician or replacement is appropriate
Arrange qualified service for a recurring code, suspected gas-pressure problem, internal electrical or sensor fault, or any repair beyond the safe checks above. If the unit must be replaced, first confirm the installed model and the RV’s door dimensions and configuration. Furrion lists the FWH09A 2.4 GPM tankless RV water heater, including model FWH09AFA-AM; its product page states 2.4 GPM and 60,000 BTU and describes a wall thermostat and antifreeze protection for that SKU. These specifications do not establish compatibility with a particular RV. Confirm fit, installation requirements, and compatible parts with Furrion or a qualified RV technician. See the manufacturer’s FWH09AFA-AM product page.
