WOOD lists the piece at 36 inches wide, 25 inches deep and 78 inches high. A reseller lists slightly different finished dimensions, so confirm the measurements and cut details in the plan copy you obtain before cutting material.
What the plan is designed to build
This hall tree is intended for placement near an entry door. Its upper section provides coat hooks, while the lower cabinet serves as a bench and includes cubbies that can hold baskets for items such as gloves, hats and scarves. WOOD describes the lower cabinet as a place to sit while tying or removing shoes.
The plan is identified as appearing in WOOD Issue 198, July 2010. The publisher page shows an update date of January 11, 2024.
How much space it needs

| WOOD magazine listing | 36 in. | 25 in. | 78 in. |
| Reseller listing for the 2010 plan | 35.75 in. | 25.5 in. | 78.5 in. |
The two listings do not explain the small differences. Measure the intended location, including clearance for doors and walkways, and use the dimensions and cut measurements in the plan version you will build from rather than combining figures from different listings.

Materials and workshop tools
The reseller says the documented build used red oak, red-oak plywood and red-oak crown molding, while noting that builders may choose other wood. Its tool list includes a tablesaw, router, drill, clamps and bandsaw, along with other common workshop tools. The listing also says the plan includes building instructions and finishing guidance.
WOOD’s project description mentions a step-by-step method for making cove molding from 3/4-inch-by-5-inch stock using a tablesaw. That is a feature described for this project, not a substitute for the plan’s complete material specifications or tool instructions.

What to verify in the plan before building
- Check the complete cut list and dimensions against the copy of the plan you have, especially before cutting parts.
- Review the diagrams, assembly sequence, joinery details and finishing guidance in that copy; the accessible publisher overview does not provide those details.
- Confirm that the planned footprint and height suit your entryway and intended use.
- Follow the plan’s safety instructions and your tool manufacturers’ guidance. The accessible overview does not publish detailed safety instructions or a load rating.
A separate entryway-bench guide from The Home Depot advises builders to treat listed dimensions as a guide and measure their own build before cutting; that is general adaptation guidance, not evidence of a correction to this WOOD plan.
