To evaluate a system, match its listed ratings and electrical needs to the building, then confirm filtration, installation requirements, accessories and replacement-part compatibility.
What is a central vacuum system?
Unlike a portable vacuum, a central vacuum has a power unit installed away from the main cleaning areas and a pipe network leading to inlets around the home. A hose and attachments connect at an inlet when you clean. The arrangement means you select not just a power unit, but a system: the unit, piping, inlets, hose and floor tools must work together.

Start with the building and the complete cleaning setup rather than choosing by a single headline rating. Think Vacuums lists the Drainvac Think 4 as a 120-volt, bagged power unit. Its product page gives the following specifications and claims; they are retailer-listed figures, not independent comparative test results.

These values are listed by Think Vacuums for the Drainvac Think 4. The page does not establish test conditions for the maximum airflow, waterlift or air-watt ratings, nor does it provide an independent measure of cleaning performance. Treat the stated area as the retailer’s listed maximum, not a universal sizing rule or guarantee that a particular pipe layout and accessory set will perform as desired.
Check the electrical and installation fit
Before selecting a unit, verify that the proposed location and electrical circuit meet its requirements. A listed 120 V and 15.5 A draw is material to planning; have a qualified installer assess the actual circuit and installation as appropriate. Also account for the building’s pipe routing, number and placement of inlets, and whether the project is new construction or a retrofit. The product listing does not specify what construction work a particular home will require.

Match the unit to the hose and cleaning tools
Confirm that the hose, connections and any powered carpet or rug head are compatible with the selected unit and inlets. A power unit’s ratings alone do not tell you which tools are included or whether you need a separate attachment kit. Check the product’s current contents and compatibility details before ordering.
Bagged, hybrid and filtration choices
Filtration and collection arrangements differ by product. Think Vacuums describes the Drainvac Think 5 as using hybrid filtration that can operate with or without bags, with a self-cleaning filter. Its product page also lists Drainvac bags and a cloth filter among related items. Do not assume every central vacuum uses the same filtration or exhaust design. Broan-NuTone says its central vacuum systems vent vacuumed air outside the home and identifies sealed HEPA filtration for some offerings. Those are statements about Broan-NuTone products, not proof of the design of every Think Vacuums unit or every central vacuum.
