What caused the building to collapse?
The cause has not been established in a final technical investigation or court finding. Police said an initial inquiry suggested renovation work may have contributed, particularly the removal of a wall between two ground-floor shops. This was a preliminary police account, not a definitive determination of cause or responsibility. Hindustan Times, April 20, 2025
Why was the rescue operation difficult?
An NDRF official described the failure as a “pancake collapse”: the building fell vertically, with debris from multiple floors stacking on top of one another. The same report said narrow lanes made it harder to remove debris and bring equipment close to the site. NDRF, Delhi Fire Services, police and other responders took part in the operation.
