The Western Australian Planning Commission (WAPC) lists the project at 2 The Plaza as a $73.7 million proposal with 73 apartments, retail and hospitality spaces, and parking. Builder PACT Construction later reported that the structure reached full height at topping out. Project sources anticipate completion in late 2026; that remains a forecast, not a confirmed handover date.
What is Ora Sorrento, and where is it being built?
Ora Sorrento is a mixed-use apartment development on the former Sorrento Plaza site at 2 The Plaza, Sorrento, Western Australia. The WAPC describes an eight-storey project comprising apartments, a restaurant, café, small liquor store and associated parking. How large is the development?
The current WAPC listing and project-participant information describe 73 apartments or residences. PerthNow’s March 2025 report instead described 75 apartments. The available sources do not explain the discrepancy, so 73 is the best-supported current figure rather than a claim that the earlier report was definitively wrong. PerthNow’s March 2025 report
The building is eight storeys. PACT’s commencement announcement described three- and four-bedroom penthouses; PerthNow’s report referred to four-bedroom penthouses. Those descriptions do not establish the mix or availability of all residences.

What was approved, and when?
The WAPC records approval on 24 November 2022. Its listing also records approved modifications on 19 February 2024 and 12 June 2026. The latest modification summary covers landscaping, public-realm areas, ground-floor glazing and the southern façade, as well as conditions and advice notes. WAPC project listing
PerthNow reported that the City of Joondalup opposed the application in 2022 and that 464 public submissions were received, 46.3 per cent of them objections. Those consultation figures are the outlet’s reporting; they are not presented in the WAPC listing summary.

How has construction progressed?

PerthNow reported that construction officially began in March 2025 and identified PACT Construction as the builder. PerthNow
Topping out
PACT later announced that Ora Sorrento had topped out, meaning the building had reached its full structural height. The builder’s post reported 11,500 cubic metres of concrete and 1,275 tonnes of reinforcement used in the project. When is completion expected?
Verto Projects says construction is underway and anticipates completion in late 2026. This is a projected timing, not a confirmed completion or handover date. The available project sources do not independently establish an updated schedule or a final handover date. Verto Projects

PerthNow reported projections attributed to the WAPC of a $6.8 million economic contribution and 62 commercial-business jobs. These are projected outcomes, not confirmed results from completed construction or operating businesses. PerthNow’s report
