Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsFree Scan →Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitchesFind Drivers →A 6-1/2-inch cordless circular saw can handle many everyday framing and sheet-goods cuts; a 7-1/4-inch model can provide greater cut capacity, but the blade diameter alone does not tell you how well a saw fits your work. Compare the exact model’s cut depth and bevel range, then weigh its battery platform, handling, and included equipment against the cuts you actually make.
What changes between 6-1/2-inch and 7-1/4-inch saws?
The larger blade may allow a deeper cut, which can matter when cutting thicker stock or making bevel cuts. But capacity varies by model, and blade size is not a guarantee of a particular depth. Check the saw’s listed cut capacity at 90° and its bevel range before choosing.
| Example model | Blade size | Manufacturer-listed capacity | Other relevant details |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bosch CCS180B | 6-1/2 inches | 2 inches at 90°; 50° maximum bevel | Blade-left layout; 6.7 pounds listed weight; bare tool. Bosch product listing |
| Milwaukee M18 FUEL 2835-20 | 7-1/4 inches | 2-5/8 inches of cut capacity | Bevel detents and electric brake; compatible with M18 REDLITHIUM batteries. Milwaukee product listing |
These are specifications for two particular saws, not a universal comparison of every saw in either size. A capable 6-1/2-inch model may be sufficient for your stock and cut angles; if you need more depth, verify that the specific 7-1/4-inch model provides it.
How to choose for your work
Start with cut depth and bevels
Identify the thickest material and the angled cuts you expect to make. Compare the manufacturer’s depth figures at 90° and at the bevel angles you use. A saw that meets your needs for straight cuts may have less capacity when tilted, so do not rely on the blade diameter alone.

- 5150 RPM motor delivers power and speed to make the most demanding cuts with ease
- High strength and lightweight magnesium shoe provides jobsite durability for long-term cut accuracy
- Optimized rubber over molded comfort grip delivers optimal balance and control
- 0-50° bevel capacity allows for aggressive bevel cuts for a multitude of applications
Check layout, visibility, and handling
Blade-side layout affects how a saw feels in your hands and how you see the cut line; neither side is automatically better for every user. Compare the sightline, shoe visibility, grip and controls in the exact model. Also compare weight with the battery installed, because a bare-tool listing’s weight may not describe the assembled saw you will carry or use overhead.
Match the battery platform and package
If you already own compatible batteries and chargers, staying on that platform may simplify your setup. Confirm compatibility and check whether the SKU is tool-only or a kit. For example, Bosch identifies the CCS180B as a bare tool and lists a blade and Allen key as included; its listing says the battery and charger are sold separately. DEWALT lists its DCS565B as compatible with DEWALT 20V MAX and FLEXVOLT batteries and as tool-only; the related DCS565P1 kit listing describes a package with a 5 Ah battery and charger. Check the exact package before purchase.

Milwaukee lists its M18 FUEL 2835-20 as compatible with M18 REDLITHIUM batteries. The company claims up to 750 cuts per charge when this saw is paired with an M18 REDLITHIUM FORGE HD12.0 battery. That is a manufacturer claim tied to a named battery, not an independent result or a guaranteed count for every material and cutting condition. See Milwaukee’s model details.
Compare useful features and accessories
Brakes, bevel detents, dust adapters, fences, and blade availability can make a difference on the job. Their presence and design are model-specific: Bosch lists an electronic brake on the CCS180B, while Milwaukee lists an electric brake, vacuum adapter, blade wrench, and included 24-tooth framing blade for the 2835-20. Milwaukee also describes AUTOSTOP™ Advanced Kickback Protection on its M18 FUEL 7-1/4-inch Circular Saw with ONE-KEY, saying it shuts off power when a severe kickback event is detected. This is the manufacturer’s description of that product feature, not an independent certification or a guarantee against injury.

Milwaukee M18 FUEL 2835-20
Milwaukee lists 2-5/8 inches of cut capacity for the 2835-20, along with bevel detents and an electric brake. The product page lists an included 24-tooth framing blade, vacuum adapter, and blade wrench, and specifies M18 REDLITHIUM battery compatibility. Use only a blade specified for your exact saw
Do not assume that a blade of another diameter will fit safely, even if a marketplace listing suggests compatibility. Check the saw’s manual for the required diameter, arbor, blade type, and other specifications before buying or installing a blade. In a support article updated November 24, 2025, DEWALT advises using only the blade size specified in the user manual, warning that alterations may make the tool unsafe and may void the warranty. Read DEWALT’s blade-size guidance.
