The documented design uses 18-inch PVC cradles for grinders and a 24-inch divided section for accessories; measure your own tools and discs before cutting because those dimensions are one example, not a universal fit.
How the box is organized
The project, built by farmer Jordan Kimball of Noonan, North Dakota, and described by Dave Mowitz in Successful Farming on May 31, 2024, is an open portable storage box, not a sealed carrying case. Lengthwise-cut PVC halves form cradles: shorter sections hold grinder bodies, while a longer section is divided to organize accessories. The source describes the layout for 4- and 4½-inch grinders, corded or cordless, with or without side handles. Confirm the fit with your own tool before committing to the cuts.
Materials, tools and example dimensions
The source estimates about three hours of working time. It lists an electric drill or driver and a table saw or circular saw/band saw, along with these materials:
- 1×4-inch and 1×6-inch lumber
- ½-inch and ¾-inch plywood
- 6-inch-diameter PVC pipe
- Wood screws
In the documented build, 1×6 lumber forms the frame and ¾-inch plywood forms the back. The frame is 25 inches square: sides are 24¼ inches long and fit inside 25-inch ends. The grinder cradle sections are 18 inches long; the accessory cradle is 24 inches long. Treat these as the source’s example dimensions, not fixed requirements. Actual lumber dimensions, tool shape, handle position and accessory sizes affect the layout.

Build the box and fit the organizers
- Make the frame and back. Cut the 1×6 sides to 24¼ inches and the ends to 25 inches. Fasten the sides inside the ends, then attach the frame to the ¾-inch plywood back.
- Prepare the PVC cradles. Cut the 6-inch PVC pipe lengthwise into halves. Make 18-inch sections for the grinder area and a 24-inch section for accessories. Check the intended layout against your grinder and accessories before fastening anything permanently.
- Allow for grinder handles. Mark and cut openings in the grinder cradle sections where needed so the handles fit without forcing the tool into place.
- Separate the storage areas. Install a 1×4 divider between the grinder cradles and accessory section.
- Make accessory compartments. Cut half-moon dividers from ½-inch plywood and fasten them to the PVC accessory cradle with wood screws. Set their spacing to the discs and brushes you intend to store.
- Attach the cradles. Position the PVC halves on the plywood base and secure them with wood screws after confirming the fit and access to each compartment.
The original project describes sawing PVC and lumber but does not give a detailed cutting-safety procedure. Use the saw manufacturer’s instructions and appropriate precautions for the tools and materials in your shop.
Check accessory compatibility before use
A storage compartment does not establish that a wheel or brush is safe for a particular grinder. Bosch’s April 2021 GWS Grinder Owner’s Operating Instructions state that accessory mounting must match the grinder’s spindle thread and direct users to inspect abrasive wheels and wire brushes for damage before use. Follow the manual for your own grinder and accessory.
