What counts as extra-large?
There is no single size established here for the label “extra-large.” Measure the space you need and compare the maker’s listed dimensions. A square blanket gives a different layout from a rectangular one, even when their overall area is similar.

The four-adult capacity is the Japan listing’s maker-stated claim, not a guarantee of comfort or space for every group.
How to assess the waterproof layer
Look for the construction named by the maker, rather than treating “water-resistant” and “waterproof” as interchangeable. The L.L.Bean US listing specifies a 70D nylon backing with a 1500 mm polyurethane waterproof coating. Costco describes the Columbia blanket as having a waterproof outer shell, with polyester face and reverse and polyester fill.

Comfort and portability are separate trade-offs
A soft top and a moisture barrier do different jobs. L.L.Bean describes a polyester fleece top over its coated nylon backing. Costco lists polyester face and reverse with polyester fill and a waterproof outer shell. The specifications establish the materials, but no hands-on comparison of softness or comfort is documented.

Follow the current product label rather than assuming the instructions for one blanket apply to another.
