What the GH900 is like to own
Corded power trades mobility for no battery runtime
The corded design means you need a suitable outdoor outlet and must manage an extension cord while working. In return, there is no battery runtime to plan around or battery to replace. Those are practical implications of the power source, not measured performance advantages.
Trimming and edging use the same tool
The rotating lower housing converts the trimmer to a wheeled edger. The manual notes that the automatic feed may not work correctly if the wheeled edge guide is not used during edging, so use the guide in that mode.

Published figures do not answer every yard question
The 13-inch cut path and 5.5-pound listed weight offer useful points of reference, but they do not establish how quickly the GH900 will finish a particular yard or how it handles dense vegetation. The available product information and manual do not provide hands-on results for those conditions.
Correct line and spool for the GH900
The manual specifies round .065-inch (1.65 mm) nylon line and recommends the AF-100 spool. BLACK+DECKER lists the RC-100 as the replacement cap. The manual warns against serrated or heavier-gauge line: it may overload the motor and cause overheating. Replacing or rewinding line
- Disconnect the plug. Unplug the trimmer before replacing line or cleaning it.
- Use the specified line. Install a compatible AF-100 spool, or rewind the spool with round .065-inch nylon line.
- If rewinding, follow the spool markings and manual. Anchor the line as illustrated, wind neatly in the direction of the arrow without crossing it, and trim excess line at the spool recesses. The manual cautions that hand-wound spools are more likely to tangle than factory-wound spools.
- Seat the cap securely. Check that the spool cap is properly fitted before reconnecting the tool.
If line will not advance
- Unplug the trimmer before inspecting it.
- Check that enough line remains on the spool.
- Remove crossed or tangled winding.
- Clean the spool and housing.
- Check that the feed lever moves freely and that the spool cap is seated.
Safety essentials from the manual
- Install the guard before trimming or edging. The manual warns that without it the motor can overheat.
- Disconnect the plug before changing line or cleaning.
- Secure the extension cord with the cord-retention feature and wear eye protection.
- While edging, debris can be thrown; keep bystanders and pets at least 100 feet (30 m) away.
These are key precautions, not a substitute for reading the complete manual before use.
