If you want a bench with built-in storage, check the material and the exact model specifications before buying. The documented storage benches below are made of resin, not vinyl. A separate PVC-vinyl bench from DuraTrel has no storage compartment described on its product page, so “vinyl storage bench” is not a verified description for these examples.
What to compare before choosing an outdoor storage bench
Start with the items you plan to store and compare their dimensions with the bench’s interior measurements. Capacity in gallons is useful for comparing overall volume, but it does not tell you whether a bulky cushion or long tool will fit through the opening. Then check the exterior footprint, the manufacturer’s seating or lid-load information, assembly requirements and warranty.
- Material: Confirm whether the product is resin or PVC vinyl; the terms are not interchangeable.
- Fit: Use interior dimensions for stored items and exterior dimensions to plan patio space.
- Seating: A statement that a bench seats adults is not the same as a published load rating. For a storage seat, check the exact lid capacity where available.
- Weather claims: Treat descriptions such as “weather resistant,” “water resistant” or “dry storage” as manufacturer claims, not a guarantee against every storm or exposure.
- Warranty and setup: Compare the stated warranty and whether assembly or tools are required.

These are manufacturer-listed specifications and claims, not independent durability or performance test results. The products differ in capacity and footprint; choose based on the items you need to store and the space available rather than treating capacity alone as a ranking.
When “vinyl” does—and does not—describe the product
DuraTrel’s six-foot #11125 bench is described as PVC vinyl reinforced with wood inserts. Its listed seat measures 72 × 11 × 16 in, and the manufacturer states a 20-year warranty. The product page discusses UV protection and low maintenance but does not describe a storage compartment. It is therefore an example of a vinyl bench, not evidence of a vinyl storage bench.

For the storage models above, the documented material is resin. If vinyl construction is essential, verify that the exact product listing identifies both vinyl material and built-in storage; neither feature should be inferred from a general product title or appearance.
Will a storage bench keep contents dry, and can you sit on it?
Manufacturers make different weather-protection claims: Keter describes the Solana’s storage as dry and ventilated; Rubbermaid says its bench protects contents from moisture and sun damage; and Suncast describes its model as water resistant with UV protection. Those statements do not establish waterproof performance under every condition, such as wind-driven rain or flooding.

Likewise, do not assume every storage-box lid can safely serve as a seat. Keter publishes a 551 lb loading capacity and says the bench accommodates two adults; Suncast publishes a 200 lb lid capacity. Rubbermaid states seating for two adults but does not publish a numeric load rating on the cited page. Follow the exact model’s instructions and ratings.

- Measure the available floor area, allowing room to open the lid and access the contents.
- Measure the largest item you plan to store, then compare it with interior dimensions—not just the listed exterior size or gallon capacity.
- Decide whether you need a bench for regular seating or a smaller seat for occasional use, and use only the manufacturer’s stated load information.
- Review the material, weather language, assembly requirements and warranty on the exact model page before purchase.
A lockable lid, such as the one Keter lists for the Solana, is a feature for securing the compartment; the cited specifications do not establish a theft-resistance rating.
