Does “share your feedback” mean fans can buy shares?
No. The Birmingham Sports Quarter page invites fans to share feedback and describes the work as being at an early stage; it does not offer an investment or ownership interest. Birmingham Sports Quarter’s project page does not set out a share subscription or investment terms.
Blues Trust explains community shares in general: a community benefit society may raise finance through withdrawable shares, which differ from ordinary company shares in their rights and restrictions. But its explanation is not a stadium fundraising announcement, and it does not say the Trust is raising money for this project. Blues Trust’s community shares information is background, not an offer document.
Accordingly, there is no basis in the cited project material to say Birmingham City is selling stadium shares or that supporters can invest. Whether the club or Knighthead might announce an offer in future remains unresolved; that would need confirmation from a direct statement and formal offer documentation.

What is the proposed stadium and Sports Quarter?
Heatherwick Studio announced on 21 October 2025 that it had been selected to design Birmingham City FC’s new stadium, working with Kansas-based MANICA Architecture and Steven Knight. The studio presents the venue as the centrepiece of a broader Sports Quarter, with proposed high-performance training facilities and mixed-use real estate. Heatherwick Studio’s announcement estimated the development could contribute £760 million a year to Birmingham’s economy by 2035. That is the studio’s estimate, not a measured result or independently verified impact.
The design ambition is for activity beyond match days and a place connected to the club, site and city. Heatherwick Studio founder and design director Thomas Heatherwick said: “This is going to be an incredible piece of city built around the passions of the Blues fans and the community. Not another spaceship dropped in a car park which feels dead when there’s not a match, but somewhere that’s alive, connected, grown from the site and from the history of Birmingham itself. We couldn’t be prouder.”

LBC reported the concept as a 62,000-seat stadium with a retractable roof and changeable pitch, intended to accommodate football, NFL games and concerts. The venue has also been reported under the proposed name Powerhouse Stadium, with naming rights contemplated. These are reported design and commercial proposals, not settled delivery commitments. LBC’s stadium report was updated on 10 February 2026.

Coliseum reported that Birmingham City intended to lodge plans for the wider Sports Quarter with Birmingham City Council in March 2027. Its 27 May 2026 report relayed comments from the club’s Head of Infrastructure, Nick Smith, about land preparation and construction timing. Any duration or completion expectation remains contingent: the report describes a complex project dependent on conditions and resources. Coliseum’s 27 May 2026 report describes an intended planning milestone, not permission to build.

How broad is the development?
The plan is not limited to a stadium. Coliseum’s account describes proposed surrounding uses including a training centre, women’s stadium, arena, housing, hospitality and transport changes. Birmingham City Council’s 5 June 2025 item places the envisaged Sports Quarter in the East Birmingham Growth Zone and refers to transport funding for the wider network. That wider public-sector context does not establish that the council owns the stadium or has invested in the private development. Cost figures should also be treated carefully. LBC’s headline and report refer to a £1.2 billion stadium figure, while other reporting has cited different amounts for the wider Sports Quarter. Without a primary project document establishing a definitive budget and scope, those figures should not be treated as interchangeable or as a settled cost.

How to assess future project announcements
For stadium delivery, distinguish design publicity from the steps that establish whether and when a scheme can proceed. Track each milestone by date, source and status:
- Design announcement: describes a concept and design intent.
- Planning submission: shows that an application has been lodged, not that it has been approved.
- Planning decision: records the relevant authority’s decision and conditions.
- Funded construction start: is a stronger delivery indicator than a target season or concept image.
- Verified opening date: should be treated as firm only when supported by current project and operational information.
If a share offer is announced, evaluate the actual issuer and legal structure rather than relying on the label “community shares.” The offer documents should establish whether shares are ordinary or withdrawable, voting and transfer rights, withdrawal terms, any financial return, use of proceeds, risks and governance. The Blues Trust overview can explain the general distinction, but only the issuer’s formal documents can set the terms of a specific offer.
