For a portable fan to move air around a larger room, a Lasko Wind Machine is a practical option—but the model number matters. Lasko lists up to 1,985 CFM for the A20303 and up to 2,026 CFM for the A20301. Those are manufacturer-stated maximums, not results from an independent head-to-head test. Choose by the space, airflow direction, controls, portability, and electrical details you need—not by the “wind machine” name alone.
What is a wind machine fan?
“Wind Machine” is Lasko’s name for a line of portable air circulators. The cited 20-inch models have three speeds and pivoting heads, so you can direct airflow rather than relying on a fixed direction. That makes them an option for larger rooms, basements, workshops, or garages when the goal is to move air through an occupied space.
A fan circulates air; it does not lower the air temperature or create air conditioning. Lasko says a Wind Machine can be placed near an air-conditioning vent to help distribute conditioned air, but the product information does not establish a particular temperature change, energy saving, or whole-house result. See the manufacturer’s A20303 listing and A20301 listing.
Which Lasko Wind Machine models are worth comparing?
The two cited 20-inch models share three speeds, a pivoting head, ETL listing, Blue Plug protection, and a one-year warranty, according to their manufacturer listings. Their stated airflow and some listed specifications differ:

CFM means cubic feet per minute, a volume-flow measure. The listed maximums differ by model; they do not establish that one will perform better in every room or at every speed. The cited pages do not provide a standardized independent comparison or enough information to determine whether the two figures were measured under identical conditions.
Wind Machine vs. high-velocity or tower fan
These fan types serve different preferences and their published airflow figures are not necessarily comparable. A high-velocity floor fan may suit a buyer who wants mounting or remote-control options; a tower circulator offers a taller, narrower form with oscillation.

| Option | What the cited manufacturer listing says | Useful distinction |
|---|---|---|
| Lasko 20-inch Wind Machine A20303 | Up to 1,985 CFM; 63–107 W; manual three-speed controls; pivoting head. Lasko listing. | Portable circulator with a directional head; no remote is listed. |
| Lasko 20-inch high-velocity floor fan | 110–184 W; wall-mount capability; remote; ETL listing; Blue Plug protection. Airflow is not stated in the cited listing. Lasko listing. | Consider it when wall mounting or a remote matters more than a listed CFM figure. |
| Vornado OZI42DC tower circulator | 70-degree oscillation; DC motor; outlet airflow speed stated as 1,550 feet per minute. CFM is not stated in the cited listing. Vornado listing. | Tower form and oscillation; feet per minute measures speed, not airflow volume, so it cannot be directly compared with CFM. |
Brand specifications are not a controlled comparative test. Do not use these figures to conclude that one model is quieter, more efficient, or more powerful overall.
How to choose the right fan for your space
- Decide what air needs to do. For moving air across a room or helping distribute air from a nearby vent, a pivoting circulator is relevant. If you need oscillation, wall mounting, or remote controls, compare those features explicitly.
- Check the model-specific airflow and power figures. Treat “up to” CFM as the manufacturer’s stated maximum for that exact model. The A20303 listing gives a 63–107 W input range; the cited A20301 listing does not state power draw.
- Match the form and footprint to the placement. Compare dimensions, weight, carry handle, tilt or pivot, and mounting options. The A20301 listing gives dimensions of 22 × 22 × 12.6 inches and weight of 9.1 lb; the A20303 listing gives weight of 10.1 lb.
- Review controls and listed safety information. The cited Wind Machine pages list three speeds, ETL listing, and Blue Plug protection. The high-velocity alternative listing includes a remote and wall-mount capability. These are product-page claims, not a comparative safety assessment.
- Check warranty and the exact listing before buying. The cited Wind Machine product pages state a one-year warranty. Confirm the retailer’s model number matches the specifications you intend to buy; no current price or availability is established here.
Using a fan with air conditioning
A portable circulator can help move cooled air away from a vent and mix air within a room. Place it where its airflow can travel through the occupied area rather than directly into an obstruction. The manufacturer describes this as a use for the Wind Machine, but does not quantify a temperature reduction or energy savings. A fan should not be treated as a substitute for an appropriately sized and functioning cooling system.

What the specifications do—and do not—tell you
- CFM: The A20303 and A20301 pages state maximums of 1,985 and 2,026 CFM respectively. The figures are model-specific and manufacturer-reported.
- Watts: The A20303’s 63–107 W is a stated input range, not an electricity-cost estimate. Cost depends on operating time and local electricity rates.
- Safety: ETL listing and Blue Plug protection are identified on the relevant Lasko pages. The available specifications do not establish a brand-wide safety ranking or independent electrical comparison.
- Noise, room coverage, and efficiency: The cited pages do not provide standardized comparative measurements for these factors, so a definitive ranking or room-size promise is not supported.
