The best strimmer depends on the work: for routine grass trimming and edging, Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18V-26-500 is a strong cordless pick, named best cordless grass trimmer overall by Expert Reviews in its guide updated 15 May 2026. For long sessions, rough growth or a large garden, runtime, cutting system and power source may matter more than that overall label. The recommendations below reflect the cited publishers’ assessments and manufacturer specifications, not testing by Bettesworth Construction.
Which type of strimmer suits your garden?
A strimmer (also called a grass trimmer or weed eater) reaches grass a mower misses: along lawn edges, walls, fences, around obstacles and beside beds. Some models can also edge walkways or tackle light brush. Choose by matching the power source and cutting head to the growth, access and length of each session.

Routine lawn edges and light weeds are different jobs from sustained work in rough growth or brambles. A light-duty head and short battery runtime may be adequate for the first and frustrating for the second. If you already own batteries in a tool platform, check compatibility before buying: sharing batteries can be useful, but voltage alone does not establish how well a trimmer will suit the job.
Best cordless strimmer for routine trimming: Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18V-26-500
Expert Reviews named the Bosch UniversalGrassCut 18V-26-500 its best cordless grass trimmer overall in a guide updated 15 May 2026. The publication reports a 26 cm cutting width, 1.6 mm line and 2.2 kg weight. Its review describes effective cutting of thistles and nettles, good line management, adjustable head positions and a head that rotates for edging.

There are practical limits to weigh against those strengths. In the configuration reviewed, using a 2Ah battery, Expert Reviews reported about 20 minutes of battery life and found the tool somewhat head-heavy. That runtime is a reported result for that battery configuration, not a guarantee for every battery or task. Check the current listing for the intended market and whether it is a bare tool or a kit; the cited Expert Reviews listing is for Amazon UK, and availability and contents can change.
When a different model or cutting system makes more sense
For bigger gardens or heavier cordless work
Expert Reviews includes the Bosch AdvancedGrassCut 36 as a heavy-duty cordless option. Its guide also names the petrol Stihl FS40, a value Ryobi cordless model and a corded Flymo option. These are task-specific alternatives, not evidence that one tool is best for every garden. Before choosing, compare the exact model’s weight and balance, cutting width, runtime or cable reach, and included equipment.

For edging, blades or adaptable heads
Stuff’s 7 May 2026 roundup describes several different designs: the WORX WG163E rotates into a wheeled edger and uses PowerShare batteries; the GTech GT50 uses replaceable plastic blades; and the WORX WG186E has interchangeable heads and a brushless motor with variable speed. Stuff also lists the Stiga GT 500e as a 48V battery model. These are feature descriptions, not independent comparative test results in the available evidence.
Nylon line often gives a wider cutting area, while plastic blades are replaceable and often cover a smaller area, but the actual cutting width and approved head depend on the model. Check the manufacturer’s specifications rather than assuming every trimmer with the same power source cuts the same way. For rougher vegetation, confirm that the selected head and any blade are explicitly approved for that tool.

For variable speed and protective motor features
Makita’s UAE product document for the DUR368AZ describes Automatic torque Drive Technology (ADT), which adjusts speed and torque, and Active Feedback sensing Technology (AFT), which switches the motor off if blade rotation is suddenly forced to stop. The document lists low, medium and high settings of 3,500, 5,300 and 6,500 rpm. Makita claims up to 125 minutes of runtime on low speed with two BL1860B batteries; this is a manufacturer estimate for that stated setting and battery configuration, not a universal runtime. The document describes the DUR368AZ as a tool-only version without battery or charger. Because the source is for the UAE market, check local model configuration and specifications before purchasing.

- Cutting job: Decide whether you mainly need lawn-edge touch-ups, routine weeds, rough growth or brambles. Do not assume a model recommended for ordinary trimming is suited to sustained heavy work.
- Cutting head and width: Confirm whether the model uses nylon line, plastic blades or an approved cutting blade, and check its stated cutting width. Match replacement heads and consumables to the exact model.
- Handling: Look for useful shaft and handle adjustment, manageable weight and good balance. A trimmer can be light on paper yet feel tiring if the head makes it unbalanced.
- Runtime and charging: For cordless tools, identify the battery capacity behind any runtime figure, whether it is a manufacturer claim or a reported test result, and whether the battery and charger are included. For corded tools, consider outlet access and cable reach.
- Noise and vibration: These can affect comfort and neighbors. Use measured comparisons only when a source reports measurements; the available product details do not establish comparable figures across the models named here.
- Battery platform and ownership: If you own compatible batteries, verify that the trimmer accepts them. Husqvarna’s US battery string-trimmer category lists both tool-only and battery-included variants, illustrating why kit contents must be checked rather than inferred from the model name.
- Parts and consumables: Husqvarna identifies line, spools, heads, blades and spare batteries as common accessory types. Confirm the exact model and head compatibility before buying replacements.
How to use review evidence sensibly
Expert Reviews says its grass-trimmer testing includes garden trials, cutting work, line and spool handling, runtime and charging checks, noise measurements and hand-arm vibration measurements. It says it has tested more than 20 trimmers since 2020, with trials covering lawn, rough grass, weeds and brambles. That describes the publication’s methodology; it does not mean every model in the guide has the same measured results, and it is not testing conducted for this article.
Likewise, a feature list is not a performance ranking. Treat the named models as candidates to check against your garden, then confirm local availability, exact model suffix, battery and charger contents, and approved cutting attachments in the market where you plan to buy.
