The right suction hook depends first on the mounting surface: IKEA specifies flat glass, mirrors, and tiles for both TISKEN and KROKFJORDEN. IKEA lists each at a maximum of 6 lb 9 oz per hook, but that figure is a product specification—not proof of how long a hook will hold in a particular bathroom. Clean, smooth, compatible surfaces and careful installation matter.
How to choose a suction hook
Start by checking the exact surface the manufacturer permits. A suction cup needs a clean, flat, nonporous surface; the cited IKEA product pages name glass, mirrors, and tiles. Do not assume the same capacity or attachment on textured, curved, porous, dirty, or otherwise unlisted surfaces.
Once the surface fits, compare the stated load per hook, the product’s material and form, whether the maker explicitly describes it as suitable for shower use, and how it attaches and releases. A published maximum load is not a durability guarantee under every bathroom’s conditions.

The two listed maximum loads are equal, so that specification alone does not distinguish them. Choose between these products based on their appearance and the installation or removal details you need; neither product page establishes that one stays attached longer than the other.

Mounting a suction hook on tile or glass
- Check the surface: Confirm that it is flat, smooth, and one of the product’s listed surfaces. IKEA names flat glass, mirrors, and tiles.
- Clean the mounting area: IKEA advises cleaning before mounting; its KROKFJORDEN page specifically recommends cleaning tiles.
- Attach the cup: For TISKEN, push the suction cup onto the cleaned surface. Follow the product’s instructions for the specific hook you have.
- Load it cautiously: Keep the total load within the named product’s maximum and avoid treating that figure as a promise of long-term holding in your conditions.
If you are organizing a shower, product pages that say “suitable for shower use” identify the intended setting, but they do not establish how long a hook will stay attached on a specific tile or under a specific pattern of use. Surface condition remains important.
If suction cups are not right for your surface
An adhesive hook is a different mounting category, not a suction-hook alternative with the same installation method. 3M’s Command Bath Multi-Hook uses water-resistant adhesive strips, and 3M lists compatible surfaces including glass, mirror, tile, fiberglass, wood, and painted surfaces. Its broader list may suit a space where a suction cup is not appropriate, but check the exact product instructions and surface compatibility before mounting.
