Compare panel and zone requirements, detection technology, coverage, pet claims and installation conditions before choosing. The manufacturer specifications below provide useful examples, not a tested ranking or guarantee of performance.
Start with the alarm panel and wiring
A wired motion detector connects to an intrusion-alarm control panel, so check both devices’ documentation before buying. Confirm the detector’s supply voltage and current, zone wiring and end-of-line (EOL) resistor requirements, tamper connections, and whether the panel accepts the detector’s configuration. Do not assume that a sensor will work with a panel simply because both are hardwired.
DSC says its LC-203 is compatible with any hardwired control panel. It also describes built-in EOL resistors for use with specified DSC panels; that detail is not a general compatibility guarantee for every panel. Check the LC-203 product information alongside the control panel’s installation documentation.
Wired alarm detectors are low-voltage components in the cited examples. Bosch lists a 9–15 VDC operating range for the Blue Line Gen2 PIR family, but that specification belongs to those models and should not be applied to other detectors. See the Bosch Blue Line Gen2 data sheet.
#1 Best Overall
- IS335 WIRED PIR Motion Detector, 40' x 56' by Honeywell
Choose PIR or dual technology for the application
PIR-only
A passive infrared (PIR) detector senses changes in infrared energy across its detection pattern. Bosch’s cited Blue Line Gen2 family is a wired PIR example. PIR-only designs may suit a room where the detector can be mounted and aimed according to its instructions, but the specification alone does not establish how it will perform in a particular home.
PIR plus microwave
Some wired models combine PIR with microwave detection. DSC lists a dual-technology option in the LC-203 line, and Honeywell’s January 2015 residential brochure compares PIR and PIR-plus-microwave models. The brochure is historical; it does not establish that every listed model is still sold. Neither the available product descriptions nor the brochure supports a claim that dual technology always outperforms PIR-only. Choose based on the room, panel, manufacturer’s instructions and the exact model’s documented behavior.
Rank #2
- K-band micro detection technology can further suppress false alarms and improve detector sensitivity.
- Excellent anti-false alarm and capture capabilities.
- Easy and quick to install.
- Built-in temperature compensation and micro anti-interference function, suitable for use in a variety of hot and cold environments.
- The ABS housing is durable and has excellent shock resistance.
Match coverage and mounting to the room
Coverage figures are model-specific. Bosch lists 12 m × 12 m coverage for the cited Blue Line Gen2 PIR detectors and recommends a mounting height of 2.2–2.75 m. The data sheet describes flat-wall, corner and bracket-assisted ceiling mounting options. These are manufacturer specifications for that family, not a promise that every room of that size will be covered equally.
- Compare the stated coverage pattern with the room’s shape, entrances and likely paths of movement.
- Confirm that the required mounting height and position are practical at the installation site.
- Check whether a bracket or alternate lens is available for the model if the room layout calls for it.
- Follow the detector manual for placement and avoid assuming that a similar-looking sensor shares the same range or mounting rules.
Evaluate pet-immunity claims carefully
Pet immunity is neither universal nor a guarantee against false alarms. Manufacturers state limits for particular models under their specified conditions; the claims do not mean that every animal, movement or installation will be ignored.

- Includes two (2) motion detectors
- Uniform Sensitivity Optics: Whether an intruder is directly in front of the sensor or at the edge of a protected area, the custom designed Fresnel lens provides a consistent level of detection—delivering optimal performance no matter. What the distance. Shorter precision focal lengths mean superior optics and detection.
- Wall-to-Wall Coverage: Wide and long detection coverage for coverage range protection that exceeds similar products in the market.
- Superior Detection and False Alarm Immunity: The IS335 motion detector provides superior protection against false alarms without sacrificing catch performance.
- Pet-friendly Selectivity: Installers can turn pet immunity on or off simply by setting a jumper. When pet immunity is enabled, the detector can distinguish between signals caused by humans while ignoring pets up to 80 lbs.
| Model or source | Documented pet-related information | What to verify |
|---|---|---|
| DSC LC-203 | DSC lists pet immunity up to 15 kg on its product page. | Confirm the exact model’s instructions and whether its placement suits the animal and room. |
| DSC LC-100-PI | DSC lists pet immunity up to 25 kg. Its page also describes Form A or C versions, an optional bracket and a corridor lens. | The page links a discontinuation notice for the LC-1XX family. Check current availability and exact version before specifying it. |
| Bosch DS970 | Bosch’s manual says the DS970 is not recommended for homes with pets or small animals. | Do not infer pet suitability from another Bosch model’s specifications; consult the DS970 instructions. |

- Panel and zone: compatibility statement, wiring configuration and EOL resistor requirements.
- Power: operating voltage and current draw, checked against the panel’s available supply.
- Detection: PIR-only or PIR-plus-microwave, and any model-specific operating instructions.
- Coverage and mounting: pattern, range, recommended height, mounting positions and bracket options.
- Pet claim: stated limit and any conditions; do not treat it as a guarantee against false alarms.
- Other installation details: tamper features, environmental suitability and certification for the exact model and installation region.
- Availability: verify that the model is currently offered, especially when relying on older product literature or a page that links to a discontinuation notice.
Honeywell’s residential hardwired indoor detector brochure, dated January 2015, compares coverage, supply voltage, pet-immunity variants, tamper features and temperature ranges across PIR and PIR-plus-microwave models. Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone.Plan placement and installation from the manuals
Use the detector’s installation instructions and the alarm panel’s documentation together. For example, Bosch recommends 7.5 ft mounting height for the DS970 and warns that rapid temperature changes within its field of view can trigger a PIR response. The same manual advises against using that model in homes with pets or small animals. Those instructions are specific to the DS970, not a universal placement rule for wired motion detectors.

Selection also depends on the installation region: check that approvals and certifications apply to the exact model and market. The manufacturer pages and documents are model- and region-specific; a generic product-family claim is not enough to establish local suitability. If the required wiring, configuration or compliance checks are outside your experience, use a qualified installer rather than treating a low-voltage device as automatically suitable for DIY installation.
