A kitchen scale can help you weigh food portions consistently, but it does not calculate current WW Points or connect to the WW app based on the available product information. For most WW members who want to weigh foods they track, look for a digital scale with gram and ounce units, tare, enough capacity for your bowl and ingredients, and a display you can read while cooking.
Do you need a special WeightWatchers scale?
No. A standard digital kitchen scale can weigh a portion; you then find or scan the food in the WW app and select the serving size separately. WeightWatchers UK says members can search for a food, adjust its serving size, and log it in the app, and that packaged-food nutrition labels can be scanned. Its tracking article, last updated 17 April 2023, advises: “Be accurate— Measure and weigh foods that have Points values when you can.” WeightWatchers UK’s tracking guidance describes the app workflow, not a connection to a kitchen scale.
WW UK also says ZeroPoint foods do not need to be weighed, measured, or tracked; its advice is to focus tracking on foods with Points values. This is UK program guidance, and rules may differ by market. See WW UK’s ZeroPoint food guidance.
What to look for in a food scale
- Gram and ounce units: Grams are useful when the food entry or nutrition label gives a portion in grams; ounces offer a familiar alternative for other recipes.
- Tare or zero: Place a bowl on the platform, zero the reading, then add food. You can also zero the display between ingredients to weigh them separately in the same container.
- Capacity: Check the maximum load against the combined weight of your bowl and ingredients, especially when preparing a large batch.
- Readable display: A large bowl can hide a screen. A pull-out display or another layout that keeps the readout visible can make weighing easier.
- Platform and cleaning: Consider whether the platform fits the containers you use and whether its surface is practical to wipe down after food prep.
- Power and controls: Check the manufacturer’s listed power source and whether the buttons and unit switching suit how you cook.
These are practical feature considerations, not claims about comparative accuracy. A scale gives you a weight; the app’s food entry and selected serving determine how that weight is logged.

These current manufacturer-listed models illustrate different useful features. Specifications below are from OXO product information accessed 8 October 2026; they are not independent test results or a ranking of which scale is best for every user.

Choose between features rather than the brand name: for instance, prioritize a pull-out readout if bowls often block your screen, or a backlit display if visibility matters in your kitchen. Confirm current availability and specifications with the manufacturer before buying.

What about the old WW-branded SmartPoints scale?
WeightWatchers published a manual in 2015 for a “kitchen scale with SmartPoints™ value Database.” The manual describes subtracting a plate or bowl, calculating SmartPoints when calories, saturated fat, sugars, and protein grams are known, saving up to 10 favorite foods, and searching a database of over 500 foods. These are claims about that historical device and its SmartPoints-era system, not current WW app functionality. The manual does not establish that the scale is still sold or works with today’s Points system. Read the WW scale manual.
