For hiking training, prioritize a treadmill’s maximum incline, a stable walking deck, and controls you can reach while moving. The right choice depends on the grades and duration you plan to train for—and whether the machine’s footprint, capacity, and connected-workout costs work in your home. NordicTrack’s Incline Series is listed at up to 40% incline and -6% decline; SOLE’s UK TT8 page lists 15 powered incline levels and six decline levels. Those are different specifications, so compare maximum grade when it is published rather than treating a level count as a percentage.
What matters most in a treadmill for hiking training?
Incline range and decline
Hiking often means sustained climbing, so the maximum powered incline is a useful first filter. NordicTrack describes its Incline Series as reaching 40% incline and -6% decline. That is a manufacturer specification, not evidence that every hiker needs such a steep grade or that the treadmill reproduces outdoor trail conditions.
SOLE’s UK TT8 page lists 15 powered incline levels and six powered decline levels, but does not state a maximum percent grade in the cited specification. A count of levels tells you how many settings are available, not how steep the top setting is. If you want to match a particular climb, look for the maximum grade for the exact model.
Deck space and frame
A full-size walking area can make longer sessions more comfortable, particularly if you have a long stride or plan to carry a light pack. The TT8 page lists a 22-by-60-inch (56-by-152.5-cm) running area. NordicTrack’s guide lists a 70-by-39-by-72.5-inch footprint for its Incline Series. Compare the actual floor space, clearance, and delivery route in your home before choosing.

Both the NordicTrack Incline Series guide and the SOLE TT8 UK page describe non-folding frames. That matters if you need to reclaim floor space or move the machine regularly. Confirm dimensions and folding design for the exact configuration sold in your country.
Capacity, adjustment controls, and warranty
NordicTrack’s guide lists a 300-pound user capacity for the Incline Series; SOLE Fitness UK lists 150 kg (331 pounds) for the TT8. These are manufacturer specifications for the products described on those pages, not a guarantee that every regional version has identical limits. Match capacity to the specific model and leave a margin rather than relying on a series name alone.

Which option may fit your home and training?
Choose the NordicTrack Incline Series if steep powered grades are your priority
Its published 40% incline and -6% decline make it a candidate for hikers who want a broad grade range, including downhill work. NordicTrack describes the line as intended for incline walking and cross-training, and its series page also describes walking, hiking, and running use. Treat that as the manufacturer’s intended-use description, not proof of equivalence to trail hiking. The listed footprint and non-folding frame make advance space planning especially important.
Consider the SOLE TT8 if you want documented incline and decline settings with a large deck
The TT8’s UK specifications combine 15 powered incline levels, six decline levels, a 22-by-60-inch deck, and quick adjustment controls. The published level count does not reveal its maximum percentage grade, so ask the seller or consult the current local product page if grade matching is central to your decision. The page describes a non-folding design and lists a 150-kg maximum user weight.

Use the SOLE F85 as a comparison lead, not a settled recommendation
SOLE’s June 16, 2026 comparison article describes the F85 as a folding incline-and-decline treadmill and compares it with the TT8 and NordicTrack X22i. That makes it worth considering if foldability is important, but the article is vendor-published and does not substitute for current specifications on the F85’s product page. Confirm its exact grade range, deck, capacity, warranty, and regional configuration before treating it as a match.
How to decide before buying
- Set your training target. Decide whether you need sustained uphill walking, downhill practice, or both. Compare maximum percent grade where available; do not infer grade from the number of settings.
- Measure the installation space. Check the treadmill’s footprint, ceiling clearance for a raised deck, delivery path, and whether a non-folding frame can remain in place.
- Check walking fit and capacity. Compare deck dimensions with your stride and confirm the exact model’s user-weight limit.
- Try or inspect the adjustment method. Look for grade controls that are accessible while walking, and confirm how quickly the machine changes incline.
- Price the full experience. Separate manual treadmill use from paid guided workouts, automatic adjustments, and app features; check current membership and warranty terms for your region.
- Verify the exact local model. Product lines and regional configurations can change. Confirm current specifications, availability, price, warranty, and return or delivery conditions with the manufacturer or retailer.
Do you need a paid subscription?
NordicTrack’s current treadmill FAQ says its treadmills can run in manual mode without a paid iFIT membership; connected features such as trainer-led workouts and automatic adjustments require membership. NordicTrack’s Incline Series page states that membership auto-renews at $39 per month plus tax unless canceled in advance. That is a vendor-stated, changeable term, so check the current price, trial, cancellation deadline, geography, and feature access before purchasing.
SOLE’s TT8 page lists compatibility with SOLE+ and describes app classes and training summaries. It does not establish that app access or every feature is permanently free, so verify current terms if those functions affect your choice.
What the specifications can—and cannot—tell you
Published specifications help narrow a shortlist by grade range, deck size, capacity, footprint, controls, and connected features. They do not show how a model will feel in your home, establish comparative long-term durability, or quantify whether training on it improves outdoor hiking performance. There is no independently verified universal winner in the cited product information; choose based on your grade goals and the machine’s fit in your space.
