The best toilet under $300 is the one that fits your bathroom and project budget, uses water efficiently, and has credible performance evidence—not simply the one with the lowest sticker price. Because toilet prices and availability change, verify a live listing before choosing a model. This guide shows how to compare candidates and avoid fit or installation costs that can turn a low-priced fixture into an expensive upgrade.

What to look for in a toilet under $300

Start with a WaterSense-labeled tank-type toilet, then confirm the exact model and configuration, dimensions, included parts, and current total project costs. EPA says WaterSense-labeled tank-type toilets use 1.28 gallons per flush (GPF) or less and are independently certified for efficiency and performance. That is a useful baseline—not a guarantee that every toilet will suit your bathroom or household.

EPA explains that certification evaluates criteria including mixed-media flushability, bowl-surface cleaning, drainline waste transport, and waste extraction. The agency states: “WaterSense labeled toilets are independently certified to meet EPA’s criteria for both performance and efficiency.” EPA’s Residential Toilets page describes the program and its current specification status.

Check the exact model, not just the product family

Use the EPA WaterSense toilet search to look up the model. For a two-piece toilet, check the exact tank-and-bowl combination: EPA notes that only listed combinations have earned the label. A product family name or a retailer’s general “WaterSense” claim is not a substitute for verifying the configuration you plan to buy.

  • REDUCE WATER USEAGE WITHOUT SACRIFICE - The 1.6 gallon per flush Drake enables you to save water without worrying about diminished performance. The Drake features a wide 3 inch flush valve and a siphon jet bowl that gets the job done in one flush.
  • STYLISH AND MODERN DESIGN - Update your oasis with this stylish design that couples well with any bathroom décor. The elongated bowl provides added space for comfort. The toilet fits into 12 inch rough-in installations and has a left-hand trip lever.

Do not use price as a performance score

Consumer Reports’ toilet buying guide notes that some toilets below $200 perform well in its testing. That supports a practical point: a higher price is not, by itself, evidence of better flushing. However, a general buying-guide statement does not establish how a particular model performs; consult current detailed ratings or other model-specific evidence before relying on a ranking.

Measure the bathroom before ordering

First confirm that the toilet will connect to the existing drain and fit around the room’s fixed features. Do not infer dimensions from a broad product name; use the manufacturer’s specification sheet for the exact model.

DeerValley Two-Piece Toilet ADA American Standard Toilet 12" Rough in 1.28 GPF Power Flush Two-Piece Elongated Toilets for Bathrooms Comfort Height High White (Toilet Seat Included)
  • Comfortable ADA Height Toilet : ADA Compliant. The height of the 2 piece toilet from floor to seat is 17 13/16 inches. Comfortable height seating makes sitting down and standing up easier and more comfort.
  • Powerful Flushing System: High water level discharge water rapidly and powerfully, a gentle press to flush out strong water flow. Hidden water holes 360-degree jet for spiral scrubbing, roll away dirt in hard-to-notice corners. At the same time effectively save water.
  • Quiet-Close Seat: Elongated seat allows seat to close quietly. Soft-close seat-in is nice in the middle of the night, with no accidental clanging to wake the house.
  • Modern Design: The elongated two piece toilet is sleek in design and will match nicely with any style decor. The elongated bowl offers added space and comfort.
  • Premium Quality: Two-piece toilets have a high porcelainization due to the high-temperature firing. Highly porcelainized toilet glaze bring a low water absorption rate, which can protect the toilet from cracking easily. One-year Limited warranty on toilets, flushing mechanism and Soft-Closing toilet seat lid.
  • Rough-in: Measure from the finished wall behind the toilet to the center of the floor drain bolts, and compare that measurement with the toilet’s stated rough-in. Account for baseboards or other trim where relevant.
  • Bowl shape and projection: Compare round and elongated options using the exact bowl dimensions. Check that the door, vanity, and nearby fixtures will still have clearance.
  • Seat height: Confirm the listed height and whether the seat is included. “Chair height” or similar labels are not a replacement for checking the actual specification.
  • Supply and floor condition: Check the shutoff and supply-line location, the floor flange, and the drain area. Damage or unsuitable existing hardware can add work beyond setting the new fixture.

There is no single rough-in, bowl shape, or seat height that fits every bathroom. If the drain, flange, or shutoff condition is uncertain, have a qualified installer assess it before you buy.

Compare configurations on equal terms

Toilets differ in construction, bowl shape, flushing options, and mechanism. Compare candidates with the same priorities in mind, and confirm each feature on the exact model’s specification sheet. EPA’s product search describes flush types and mechanisms; it does not establish which configuration is best for every home.

  • SOFT CLOSE TOILET SEAT INCLUDED: Elongated slow close toilet seat gently lowers to prevent noise and slamming, ensuring a safe and quiet close

Choice What to verify
One-piece or two-piece Exact dimensions, handling and access for installation, included components, and the total price. For a two-piece toilet, verify the listed tank-and-bowl combination in EPA’s search.
Round or elongated bowl Projection and clearance in your bathroom, plus the exact seat compatibility and whether a seat is included.
Standard or chair-height seating Manufacturer-listed height and comfort for the people who will use the toilet.
Single or dual flush How the exact model operates and its listed flush volumes. Do not assume a flush option makes a toilet WaterSense-labeled.
Gravity or pressure-assist mechanism The manufacturer’s description, installation requirements, and availability of replacement parts. Do not assume mechanism alone predicts real-world performance.

Budget for the installed project, not just the fixture

A “under $300” target can refer to the toilet alone; it does not establish that delivery, installation, disposal, or needed hardware are included. Get a current quote for the full job and confirm what is covered before purchase.

  • Toilet price, checked on the seller’s live listing on the day you buy.
  • Delivery charges, handling, and return terms.
  • Installation labor and removal or disposal of the existing toilet.
  • Any replacement shutoff valve, supply line, flange repair, or other work discovered at the connection.
  • Seat, wax ring or other sealing parts, bolts, and other items included—or not included—with the fixture.

The available evidence does not establish a universal installation price, so a single “installed cost” would be misleading. Ask the installer what is included and whether the quote changes if the existing flange or shutoff needs repair.

Use performance data carefully

A MaP score can be one useful flush-performance data point, but it is not a complete measure of toilet quality and does not guarantee clog-free operation. Check the exact model in the current MaP records, such as the May 2025 WaterSense high-efficiency toilet dataset, and consider it alongside WaterSense certification, fit, parts availability, warranty, and other model-specific evidence. Do not transfer a score from a similar-sounding model or configuration.

Understand the potential water savings

EPA says older toilets may use as much as 6 gallons per flush. Its Residential Toilets page estimates that replacing old, inefficient toilets with WaterSense-labeled models can reduce toilet water use by 20 to 60 percent, save nearly 13,000 gallons per home each year, and save more than $170 per year in water costs. These are EPA estimates cited on a page dated 2016, not guaranteed results for an individual household; actual savings depend on the old toilet, household use, and local water costs.

A practical buying sequence

  1. Measure first. Record the rough-in, available projection, and clearances; note the existing supply-line and shutoff location.
  2. Shortlist by fit. Compare exact manufacturer dimensions, bowl shape, seat height, and configuration—not just the family name.
  3. Verify WaterSense. Search the precise model in EPA’s product tool. For a two-piece toilet, confirm the exact tank-and-bowl pairing.
  4. Check model-specific evidence. Review current MaP records if available, warranty terms, and replacement-part support without treating a single score as a complete verdict.
  5. Price the whole job. Confirm the live fixture price and add delivery, installation, disposal, and any needed accessories or repairs.
  6. Confirm the listing before checkout. Check stock, included seat and installation parts, return terms, and the exact configuration being shipped.

When a rebate may help

EPA notes that rebates and vouchers are available in many areas, but eligibility and terms vary. Check with your local utility or government program for the qualifying model, application deadline, and required documentation; do not count a rebate toward the budget until its current rules are confirmed.
