Choose by required conduit sizes, enclosure material and thickness, pump arrangement, and compatibility with the driver and tooling.
Hydraulic knockout sets compared
These products serve different needs: complete kits include a pump or driver, while expansion sets add tooling for an existing compatible driver. The specifications below are manufacturer listings accessed October 8, 2026, not independent comparative test results.

How to choose a set for the job
Start with conduit trade sizes
Match the dies to the conduit sizes you need to install. A stated conduit-size range is not the same as the diameter of the hole the punch makes. Check the manufacturer’s die and hole dimensions for the exact task, rather than assuming that a 2-inch conduit-size die creates a 2-inch opening.
Match capacity to enclosure material and thickness
Greenlee lists the 7610SB, 7310, and 7304 for material up to 10-gauge mild steel or 12-gauge stainless steel. Treat those figures as manufacturer specifications, not a guarantee for every enclosure or application. Confirm that the material and thickness of the enclosure fall within the specification for the particular punch, die, and driver combination.

Choose the pump arrangement you can use effectively
The 7610SB uses a foot pump; the 7310 uses a hand pump. Greenlee also lists battery-powered hydraulic knockout kits in its product overview. The overview gives a maximum cycle time of 8 seconds for its 7-ton and 11-ton battery-powered kits; that figure does not apply to the hand- or foot-pump kits. The cited sources do not quantify differences in fatigue, runtime, or cost, so select based on the available power arrangement and your work conditions rather than assuming one is faster or easier.
Check the kit contents and compatibility
A tooling set alone is not a complete hydraulic kit. Greenlee lists the 7610SB with a 746A ram, 1725 foot pump, three draw studs, punches, dies, and a case. For the 7304, Greenlee specifies compatibility with its hydraulic drivers. Before buying any set, confirm that the driver, punches, dies, and draw studs are all included or compatible with equipment you already own.

Not every knockout set is hydraulic. Klein’s 53732SEN is a ratcheting-wrench kit with punches, dies, and draw studs for 1/2–2-inch conduit sizes; Klein states a 10-gauge mild-steel capacity. It is a non-hydraulic alternative, not a hydraulic recommendation. Its listing does not provide a like-for-like basis for ranking it against the hydraulic kits.

Installation and safety checks
- Confirm the enclosure’s material, thickness, and permitted knockout locations against its instructions.
- Verify the punch-and-die dimensions and the resulting hole size for the intended fitting.
- Use the driver, ram, draw stud, punch, and die only in combinations specified as compatible by their manufacturers.
