A coffee grinder with a built-in scale can weigh beans as it grinds and stop at a chosen dose, eliminating a separate weighing step. The Baratza Sette 270Wi is the clearest match in the available product information: Baratza says it doses by weight directly into a portafilter. The Mahlkönig X54 is a useful comparison for its grind adjustment and timed presets, but its cited product page does not establish that it has an integrated scale.
What a built-in scale changes
With a conventional timed grinder, you set a run time and the grinder dispenses coffee for that duration. Grind-by-weight dosing instead targets a mass of coffee, so the grinder can stop when it reaches the selected dose. That can remove the separate step of weighing grounds and transferring them to a brewing vessel.
The practical benefit depends on the model’s workflow. The Sette 270Wi is described as dosing directly into a portafilter, which avoids a transfer for espresso preparation. A timed grinder can still suit people who prefer to weigh coffee separately or want saved run-time presets.

Baratza Sette 270Wi: the direct match for grind-by-weight
Baratza says the Sette 270Wi uses Acaia weighing technology and doses in increments of a tenth of a gram. That figure is the manufacturer’s specification for the dosing increment; it is not an independent guarantee of repeatability in every setup. Its three programmable buttons can store dose targets, and the grinder is designed to dispense directly into a portafilter.

A Coffeeness reviewer reported receiving 9.0 g for a 9 g target and 34.9 g for a 35 g target in a test using a freshly calibrated Acaia Lunar. Those are results from that reviewer’s setup, not a promise of identical output for all users. A separate Whole Latte Love comparison also distinguishes the timed Sette 270 from the weight-based 270W/270Wi and identifies the Acaia scale as the key difference.

The X54 is not established as a coffee grinder with a built-in scale in the cited product information. Mahlkönig lists 54 mm steel burrs, stepless grind adjustment from espresso to cold brew, four time presets, manual mode, and an app. It is therefore a comparison option for someone who values adjustment across brewing styles and saved run times rather than documented integrated weight dosing.
