For a truck with a compatible 24 V supply and mounting location, a purpose-built truck microwave is the most direct option. The Dometic MWO 24 is a documented example; Scania also lists a cab-specific kit, and TruckChef offers a 24 V unit with stud-terminal wiring. None is a universal fit. If you choose a household AC microwave instead, plan for a suitable inverter and service-battery system—not just a microwave that fits the space.
Truck microwave shortlist
These options differ in fitment, connection and published specifications. Confirm the exact vehicle and installation requirements with the manufacturer or a qualified fitter before buying.

Dometic MWO 24: a purpose-built 24 V choice
Dometic lists three cooking levels, defrost, a fixed ceramic plate, LED interior lighting and two fixing brackets. The package includes the microwave, fixing kit, truck-side connector kit and manual. Dometic describes it as a truck kitchen appliance with three cooking levels and defrost; its listed 40 A rated input current makes checking the supply and connection especially important.
Scania kit 2733090: a cab-specific option
This option is tied to a particular vehicle configuration: Scania lists it for NTG trucks with high cab height, installed in the centre roof shelf, and requires cab microwave preparation option 6542B. A matching voltage alone does not establish that it will fit a different Scania cab—or another make of truck.

TruckChef: 24 V with hard-wired connection
TruckChef lists a 20 L capacity and 800 W cooking output, with 24 V input through 8 mm stud terminals. Its technical page says the unit must be hooked up and fused and notes that vehicle-specific fitting kits are available. Treat it as an installation choice to confirm with the maker or a qualified fitter, not as a plug-in accessory.
Choosing between 24 V DC and household AC
Choose a truck-specific 24 V model when fitment is confirmed
A dedicated 24 V microwave avoids adding an inverter solely to power an AC oven, but it still needs an appropriate vehicle supply, connector and mounting arrangement. Check the current specifications for the exact model and truck; the 40 A rated input current listed for the Dometic MWO 24, for example, should not be treated as a general specification for other models.

Choose AC only as part of a matched power system
A household microwave changes the question from “Will it fit?” to “Can the onboard system run it safely, including alongside other loads?” Victron’s truck example uses a service battery and Phoenix 24/1200 inverter for a load set that includes a 900 W microwave and states a 1200 W AC peak requirement. Those are worked-example figures, not a universal sizing rule. Account for the actual microwave’s input and peak demands, simultaneous loads, battery capacity, engine-off use and charging plan; seek qualified help if you are unsure.
Victron cautions against drawing the daily load profile from the starter battery because doing so risks leaving it empty. Its example demonstrates a system-design approach, not a shopping prescription for every truck.

What to verify before buying or installing
- Identify the truck’s electrical supply. Confirm voltage, available circuit and connector. Do not assume a 24 V appliance can use any outlet in a 24 V cab.
- Measure the intended location. Compare the appliance’s published dimensions with the space and check that the mounting point can secure it.
- Check vehicle-specific preparation. Confirm whether the cab requires a particular microwave preparation option, mounting kit or vehicle-specific fitting kit. Scania’s cited kit, for instance, requires option 6542B.
- Confirm wiring and protection. Follow the appliance maker’s instructions for connection, fusing and installation. TruckChef specifies stud terminals and fusing; do not apply one model’s installation directions to another.
- For an AC microwave, size the complete system. Use the appliance’s actual electrical requirements and account for inverter peak demand, concurrent loads, service-battery capacity, engine-off use and charging.
- Read the exact model’s manual. Follow its operating limits and safety instructions, which can differ by appliance.
Safe use in the cab
Dometic’s MWO24 operating manual says, “Do not use the microwave while driving.” It also describes the oven as intended for short defrosting and heating periods of up to 30 minutes. These are instructions for that Dometic model, not a substitute for checking the manual supplied with another appliance. Use the microwave only when the vehicle is parked and follow the current model-specific directions.
