OXO’s 2025 guide describes 21 thickness settings from 0 to 9 mm in 0.5 mm increments. The manufacturer also says it tested more than 100 pounds of potatoes; that is OXO’s account of its own testing, not an independent comparison or proof of superiority. For cleaning, OXO’s instructions say to hand-wash the slicing blade and thickness cylinder; the body and holder are top-rack dishwasher safe. How to use a mandoline more safely
Treat a mandoline like a stationary knife, not like a harmless kitchen gadget. OXO’s safety guide says: “Never use them without the ‘holder’ otherwise you risk cutting your fingers as they get close to the blade.” Follow the instructions for your specific model, since blade installation and cleaning procedures can differ.
- Set up securely: Extend the feet if the model has them and place it on a stable surface, following its guide.
- Secure the food: Attach the supplied holder before slicing. Do not operate the mandoline without it.
- Use controlled pressure: Move food with gentle, even pressure; do not force it against the blade.
- Follow the manual for care: Use the manufacturer’s instructions when changing blades, cleaning, and storing the tool.
