For home canning, the Jarden Home Brands name is legacy context; the current product range substantiated here is Ball. Newell Brands says it is the exclusive provider of genuine Ball home-canning products, while Ball Corporation owns the Ball trademarks and Newell uses them under license. Choose supplies around the food and tested canning method you plan to use—not a claim that one jar or kit makes a recipe safe.

What does “Jarden Home Brands” mean for buyers today?

Jarden Home Brands was associated with Ball home-canning products in 2016. Today, Newell Brands identifies itself as the exclusive provider of genuine Ball home-canning products; it does not own the Ball trademarks. Those marks belong to Ball Corporation and are used under license by Newell. Newell Brands’ Ball brand information describes that relationship.

A 2016 Jarden announcement also named FreshTECH appliances and a HarvestPro sauce maker among its products at the time. That historical release does not establish that those items—or every brand in the former Jarden portfolio—are currently available. The current product map below focuses on categories listed by Ball.

Which Ball products are useful for canning and preserving?

Ball’s current site lists jars, lids and bands, utensils, appliances, ingredients, starter kits and the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving. The categories help identify what to shop for, but a category listing does not establish a particular item’s stock, configuration or comparative quality. See Ball’s current product categories.

Product category What it is for What to consider
Jars Hold food during canning or storage. Choose the jar size and mouth style specified by the tested recipe and compatible with your intended use.
Lids and bands Provide the closure used with jars. Check the closure type and follow current manufacturer and recipe directions; do not assume a lid or band replaces correct processing.
Utensils and accessories Support preparation and jar filling. Decide which tools you need for your workflow; an accessory does not determine a safe processing method.
Appliances Equipment for particular preserving tasks. Confirm that the appliance and its instructions are appropriate for the specific food and method in a current tested recipe.
Pectin and ingredients Ingredients used in some preserving recipes. Use the ingredient type and amounts specified by the recipe rather than substituting based on packaging alone.
Starter kits and preserving guides Bundle selected supplies or provide instructions and recipes. Check the actual contents and ensure any recipe guidance is current and suitable for the food you plan to preserve.

How should you choose a jar or starter kit?

  1. Start with the food and method. Find a current tested recipe for the food you intend to preserve, then use its jar size, closure and processing directions.
  2. Match the jar. Choose a size and mouth style compatible with the recipe and closure. A jar purchase alone does not establish that food can be safely canned in it.
  3. Check the closure supplies. Determine whether you need new lids and bands and verify that they fit the jars and match current directions.
  4. Assess a kit by its contents. Confirm that included tools and instructions cover your intended task; buy any missing supplies separately.
  5. Buy from a trusted seller. Ball advises using trusted retailers and preferring items sold and shipped by the retailer to help ensure genuine products and fair market prices. Availability and price can vary, so confirm them with the seller.

A documented beginner-kit example

On July 28, 2026, Newell Brands announced a Ball Home Canning Kit curated by David Chang. The stated contents were four 16-ounce Ball mason jars, a three-piece utensil set, the Ball Blue Book Guide to Preserving and an exclusive Korean Hot Pickle Mix recipe. Newell said the kit was available at Walmart.com while supplies lasted; that launch announcement does not confirm present stock. Read Newell Brands’ July 28, 2026 kit announcement.

How do you determine which canning method to use?

Follow a current tested recipe for the exact food and preparation. Ball describes two recommended heat-processing methods: boiling-water processing for high-acid foods and steam-pressure processing for low-acid foods. The recipe determines the method and processing time; do not choose a method based on the jar, kit or appliance you happen to own. Ball’s home-canning FAQ covers equipment and method questions.

The National Center for Home Food Preservation explains that proper heating destroys microorganisms and enzymes. Processing drives air from the jar, and cooling forms a vacuum seal that helps prevent recontamination. A sealed jar by itself is not proof that the food was processed safely; use the recipe’s complete directions. Read the National Center for Home Food Preservation’s canning overview.

What can and cannot be concluded about product quality?

The available product information establishes Ball’s current product categories and the stated contents of one kit at its announcement, not a comparative ranking or independent performance results. There is no basis here to call one jar, utensil, appliance or legacy Jarden product the best-performing option. For a sound purchase, prioritize recipe compatibility, the supplies you actually need, genuine products from a trusted retailer and clear current instructions.
