Most products sold as an “electric garlic press” are actually small, motorized choppers: you add garlic to a bowl and rotating blades chop it. They do not squeeze cloves through a perforated chamber like a conventional garlic press. If you want chopped garlic and the convenience of a motor, compare mini choppers; if you specifically want pressed garlic, a manual press is the closer match.
Electric garlic press or mini chopper: which do you need?
The distinction matters because the two tools make garlic differently. A bowl-and-blade chopper is designed to chop ingredients in a small container. A squeeze-style press forces garlic through holes. The electric examples described by Lumenvel and Rico are mini choppers, not motorized versions of a hand press.
- Choose a mini chopper if you want motorized chopping in a small bowl and may also prepare other small batches.
- Choose a manual garlic press if you want the squeeze-through-holes mechanism. For example, ZWILLING’s Pro Tools Garlic Press is a manual model.
Neither category can be declared the overall winner from the available evidence: the electric listings provide seller specifications, not independent performance tests.
What to compare when choosing an electric garlic chopper
Capacity and batch size
The cited Lumenvel and Rico choppers each list a 250 ml bowl. That is a stated capacity, not an independently verified usable yield or a guarantee of how much garlic you can chop effectively at once. Match the bowl size to your usual batch, and check the model’s instructions for any minimum or maximum fill guidance.

Power and charging
Lumenvel lists a 30 W motor, a 1200 mAh battery and USB charging. Rico describes its CH2112 as a USB-rechargeable chopper with a 30 W motor. These are manufacturer-listed specifications; there is no independent runtime or charging-performance comparison for these models. Check the exact listing for charging details and confirm that its included or required cable and power source suit your kitchen.
Texture control
Lumenvel says operating time can control texture. That is a seller claim, not an independently tested finding about how evenly the chopper produces coarse or fine garlic. If consistency matters, look for clear operating instructions and consider whether the product lets you pulse or otherwise control the chopping cycle.

Cleanup and care
Lumenvel lists a detachable cup and blade assembly. Detachable parts can make access easier, but removability alone does not establish that a component is dishwasher-safe or safe to submerge. Follow the exact model’s care instructions, particularly around the motorized base, blade assembly and charging connection.
Other ingredients
Rico describes the CH2112 for garlic and ginger; Lumenvel’s listing also presents its chopper for other small ingredients. Treat such range as model-specific: verify the manual’s permitted ingredients and capacity limits rather than assuming every mini chopper is suitable for herbs or other foods.

How electric choppers compare with manual presses
A motorized chopper removes the hand-squeezing step, but the available sources do not establish how much effort it saves or how its output compares with a manual press. Consumer Reports’ November 8, 2024 evaluation covered seven manual garlic presses and rockers, not the electric choppers above. It reported that both presses and rockers trapped unused garlic in their mincing chambers and holes. That finding is relevant to those manual mechanisms, not proof that an electric chopper is cleaner or more efficient.
For broader context, Consumer Reports’ food-chopper guide, updated May 23, 2025, describes choppers as tools for small jobs such as mincing garlic, while larger food processors suit bigger tasks. Its lab-test description covers other chopper and processor tasks; it does not test the Lumenvel or Rico models.

- Confirm that the product is a bowl-and-blade chopper if that is the mechanism you want.
- Compare stated capacity with your batch size, without treating bowl volume as verified output.
- Check whether the unit is rechargeable or corded, and read the exact charging instructions.
- Look for accessible parts and explicit cleaning directions; do not infer dishwasher safety.
- For a particular ingredient or texture, verify the model’s instructions rather than relying on broad seller claims.
