The best choice is the one whose exact installation requirements match your cabinetry and whose format and documented features suit your kitchen. The models below are use-case matches based on manufacturer specifications, not independently tested performance rankings.
How to choose a 30-inch built-in microwave
Start with the cabinet, then compare appliance formats and features. A microwave’s exterior width does not tell you whether it will fit the opening: the cutout, depth, clearances, ventilation, electrical provisions, and access space are model-specific. Use the current installation instructions for the exact microwave and trim kit as the final fit authority.
- Fit: Measure the opening’s width, height, and depth. Check required clearances, ventilation, electrical requirements, and door or drawer travel in the installation document.
- System format: Distinguish a purpose-built built-in microwave from a countertop microwave installed with a matching trim kit, and from a drawer microwave.
- Access: Consider whether a drop-down door, other door arrangement, or drawer works with the surrounding cabinetry and the users’ reach. Manufacturer listings establish formats, not comparative ergonomic performance.
- Functions: Compare only features explicitly listed for the model, such as convection, broil, or air fry. A feature list does not establish how well the appliance cooks.
- Capacity and power: Compare published specifications when available; do not assume products in the same width category have the same interior capacity or wattage.
- Kit and configuration: Confirm whether the trim kit is included or sold separately, which microwave models it supports, and what opening it requires.
Manufacturer-listed models to compare
These are candidates for different installation and feature priorities, not a tested ranking. Dimensions and features below are manufacturer-listed specifications; they are not measurements or cooking results from an independent comparison.
| Model | Manufacturer-listed configuration | Why compare it |
|---|---|---|
| Frigidaire Gallery GMBD3068AF | 30-inch built-in microwave with drop-down door; 19 5/8 in H × 29 3/4 in W × 19 5/16 in D. | Consider if a drop-down door and the listed shallower depth suit the layout. Check the required cutout separately. |
| Frigidaire Professional PMBD3081BF | 30-inch built-in convection microwave; convection bake, broil, and an included air-fry tray; 19 5/8 in H × 29 13/16 in W × 23 1/8 in D. | Compare if you want documented cooking modes beyond microwave functions; verify that the installation depth works. |
| Frigidaire Professional UMBW3011AS | 30-inch built-in drawer microwave; 15 15/16 in H × 29 7/8 in W × 23 3/16 in D. | Consider for a planned drawer installation, such as an island or peninsula, when the cabinet design and access suit that format. |
| Bosch HMB50152UC | 500 Series built-in microwave listed in the 30-inch category. | A candidate when comparing established appliance lines. Consult the model’s current specification and installation documents for detailed fit and feature information. |
| Summit SMBI27TK30 | Built-in microwave supplied with a trim kit for 30-inch cabinet openings; 2.2 cu. ft., 1200 W. The listed cutout is 17 1/8 in H × 25 1/2 in W × 22 3/4 in D. | Its product page gives explicit cutout dimensions and is useful for checking a measured opening. Those dimensions apply to this model, not to all 30-inch products. |
Manufacturer specifications can help narrow a shortlist, but they do not establish comparative reliability, cooking quality, or user experience. Product revisions and availability can change; verify the current model documentation before ordering.

Will a 30-inch built-in microwave fit my cabinet?
Only if the exact model’s installation requirements match the opening and surrounding space. For example, Summit lists a 25 1/2-inch cutout width for the SMBI27TK30, despite describing the supplied trim-kit arrangement for 30-inch cabinet openings. The trim frame and the microwave body can have different widths: Summit lists a 29.75-inch trim frame and a 24.38-inch microwave body. These are model-specific figures, not a general sizing rule.
Panasonic’s NN-TK932SS trim kit specifies a different opening: 28 1/2 inches wide, with its own height and depth requirements. The kit is listed as 30 in W × 18 9/16 in H × 3/4 in D. A product’s nominal width, trim-frame width, or existing opening alone is not enough to establish compatibility.

For a new build or remodel
- Choose the exact microwave and any required trim kit before finalizing the cabinet design.
- Give the cabinetmaker the current manufacturer installation instructions and cutout template for that exact configuration.
- Confirm the opening dimensions, required clearances, electrical provisions, ventilation, and room for the door or drawer to operate.
- Recheck the approved cabinet drawings against the installation documents before fabrication.
For a replacement
- Measure the existing opening’s width, height, and depth; record obstructions and available clearance.
- Identify the exact model number of the proposed microwave and, if applicable, its trim kit.
- Compare those measurements with the new model’s installation requirements—not just the old unit’s exterior dimensions or the cabinet’s nominal width.
- Check the door or drawer path, electrical provisions, ventilation, and kit components before removing the existing appliance.
Existing cabinetry and trim may not accept a replacement simply because both appliances are sold as 30-inch models. The manufacturer’s current instructions for the exact model and kit are the decisive fit reference.
Can I keep my old trim kit?
Do not assume so. Trim kits are designed for particular microwave models or model families, and the kit itself can have a distinct opening requirement. Panasonic lists compatible model families for NN-TK932SS. Sharp identifies SKM430F9HS for the SMC2266HS and SMC2265GS and states that the microwave is not included. Maytag markets MTK1630PZ for a compatible 1.6-cu.-ft. microwave.

Before ordering or reusing a kit, confirm the exact microwave model number, kit number, finish, opening dimensions, and included components with the manufacturer. A similar appearance or matching nominal width does not prove a safe or supported pairing.
Which format works for an island or lower cabinet?
A drawer microwave may be worth considering where the cabinet plan calls for lower access; Frigidaire lists the UMBW3011AS as a 30-inch built-in drawer model. A conventional built-in with a door may be more appropriate elsewhere, depending on the cabinet layout and how the appliance will be reached. These format examples do not establish that one is universally more convenient or safer. Confirm the installation location and access requirements in the exact product instructions before choosing.

What the specifications can—and cannot—tell you
Published dimensions, capacity, wattage, and feature lists are useful for screening candidates and coordinating construction. They are not independent evaluations of cooking performance, reliability, or ergonomics. In particular, Frigidaire lists convection bake, broil, and an included air-fry tray for PMBD3081BF; those documented features do not establish cooking results relative to another model. Compare like-for-like official specifications, then use installation documents to resolve fit.
