Compare specific machines in the same size class, then weigh their controls, service support and warranty for your needs. For example, the Ariens Compact 24 and Husqvarna ST 224 are both 24-inch models; the Husqvarna ST 230 is a larger 30-inch machine. Those examples are not equivalent performance or price comparisons.
Start with clearing width and intake height
A wider machine can clear more driveway in each pass, but width alone does not establish how well a blower handles a particular snowfall. Intake height also matters, especially where snow accumulates in deep banks. Compare both measurements for the exact model and model year before looking at brand names.

The Ariens and Husqvarna figures come from their respective official product or support pages. The ST 230’s gross-power rating is not directly comparable with the ST 224’s net-power figure; the rating basis differs. Compare drive, steering and controls
Ariens Compact series
Ariens describes the Compact 24 and Compact 24 RapidTrak as 24-inch models with a 224 cc engine, electric start and Auto-Turn steering. The series page also describes a five-year gear case warranty; check the coverage terms for the exact model and year in the warranty documents. These features do not, by themselves, prove that the machine will be easier to maneuver or more comfortable for a particular operator. Ariens Compact series

Husqvarna ST 224 and ST 230
The ST 224 has a friction-disc transmission with six forward speeds and one reverse speed. The ST 230 also has a friction-disc transmission, six forward speeds and one reverse speed, and is listed as self-propelled with variable speed. Compare the exact controls and handling in person where practical; equipment descriptions alone do not establish which machine suits your driveway or strength better. Read output numbers as model-specific claims
Ariens’ 2025/2026 catalog gives individual model output figures, including throwing distance and tons per hour. For the Platinum 24 SHO EFI Great Lakes Edition (model 921066), it lists a 369 cc EFI engine, 3–55 ft throwing distance and a claimed capacity of 73 tons per hour. For the Professional 28 Hydro EFI Alpine Edition (model 926091), it lists a 420 cc EFI engine, 3–60 ft throwing distance and a claimed capacity of 79 tons per hour. Do not use those Ariens throughput figures to rank the brands against Husqvarna: the cited Husqvarna pages do not provide a matching tons-per-hour figure, and there is no controlled head-to-head test in the cited material. Likewise, engine displacement, horsepower and net-power ratings are not interchangeable measures of clearing performance.
Check warranty and service where you live
Both brands direct owners to support and dealer resources, but that does not establish that one has better service in every area. Before buying, find a nearby dealer that can service the exact model and review the warranty for your region, model year and intended use. Check exclusions and whether residential and commercial use receive different coverage.

Verify manuals and replacement-part fit
Order parts by exact model and consult its manual or parts diagram rather than assuming an accessory fits every machine. The Husqvarna ST 224 support page lists accessories including snow thrower shear bolts, a cover, drift cutter, snow weight kit and heated lever grip kit. For a clog, do not put a hand into the auger or chute. Shut the machine down and follow the exact operator manual’s procedure, using the machine’s clearing tool. Husqvarna says a clearing stick is included with the ST 230; equipment and procedures vary by model. Which should you choose?
- Choose by size first: Decide whether a 24-inch machine or a wider model better fits the area you clear and the storage space you have.
- Compare exact configurations: Check width, intake height, engine-rating basis, drive, speed selection, steering, chute controls, lighting, starting method and comfort features on the actual model and SKU.
- Use local support as a deciding factor: Confirm that a nearby dealer handles the model and can support warranty service.
- Do not treat marketing figures as a shootout: Manufacturer output claims can describe a particular machine, but they do not establish a brand-level winner without comparable independent testing.
Official pages may cover different model years, editions and specification methods. They do not establish equivalent current prices for an Ariens–Husqvarna pair, comparative reliability, owner satisfaction or a universal snow-depth limit. Check current local listings and documentation for the machines you are actually considering.
