A rice-cooker cup is not a standard US measuring cup, and maximum capacity describes uncooked rice, not the amount of finished rice. The models below illustrate the trade-offs between compact size, menu choices and cooking technology; the available manufacturer information does not establish a taste or durability winner.
What size rice cooker works for one person?
A three-cup cooker is a useful default for solo cooking, especially if you want to make a small batch without dedicating counter space to a larger appliance. Zojirushi says a three-cup cooker is generally ideal for singles and couples. Tiger groups cookers up to 3.5 cups in a category it labels for one to two people. These are manufacturers’ capacity guidelines, not a guarantee of how many servings a particular person will eat.
Understand the cooker’s cup rating
Zojirushi says its supplied rice-cooker cup holds about 180 mL—approximately three quarters of a standard US cup. Its rated capacity is the maximum quantity of raw short-grain white rice, not a number of standard US cups of cooked rice. Other grains can have different maximum capacities. Check the manual or product page for the grain you plan to cook rather than converting the headline capacity into servings.
Check the minimum batch, too
A cooker’s maximum capacity tells you how much it can hold; the minimum tells you whether it can handle the small portions you expect to make. Zojirushi lists a half-cup minimum for the NS-LGC05, NS-LHC05 and NP-GBC05, measured with the rice-cooker cup. If you usually cook only a little rice, confirm the minimum for any model you are considering.

Specifications and feature descriptions come from the manufacturers’ US product information. The first three models have the same listed outer dimensions despite differences in menus and heating method. No independent cooking comparison is available here to establish that one tastes better, cooks faster or lasts longer.
Choose by the food and features you actually use
For several grains or oatmeal: NS-LGC05
The NS-LGC05 has the broadest explicitly listed menu selection among these compact examples, including long-grain white rice and steel-cut oatmeal as well as brown, GABA brown, sushi and mixed-rice settings. It may suit a kitchen where the cooker will prepare more than short-grain white rice. Its listed electrical rating is 450 W at 120 V, and Zojirushi identifies it as made in China.

For Jasmine rice: NS-LHC05
The NS-LHC05 is another three-cup Micom option with a half-cup minimum. Its listed menus include Jasmine White and GABA Brown, alongside automatic keep warm and a reheat function. Compare its settings with the NS-LGC05 according to the rice and dishes you plan to make rather than assuming one model produces a better result.
For induction heating and a delay timer: NP-GBC05
The NP-GBC05 uses induction heating and includes two delay-timer settings, in addition to automatic keep warm. Its menus include rinse-free rice and porridge, as well as white/mixed, sushi, brown, GABA brown and quick cooking. Zojirushi lists its electrical rating as 700 W at 120 V. Induction heating is a design distinction, not evidence by itself of a superior taste or texture.

When a larger cooker makes sense: Tiger JAX-S10U
The JAX-S10U is rated for 5.5 cups, larger than the compact Zojirushi examples. Tiger lists a tacook synchronized function for cooking two dishes at once and places its 5.5-cup models in a category aimed at three to four people; its category for one to two people covers models up to 3.5 cups. The larger model may be useful if you want more capacity or simultaneous cooking, but it is a less compact fit if your priority is small solo batches.

Zojirushi describes Micom as computer-controlled cooking flows. Induction heating (IH) uses induction heating in a Micom cooker. Those terms describe how a cooker is designed and what control features it uses; they do not establish which model tastes better. Choose based on the menus, minimum batch, keep-warm or timer functions, and other features that matter in your kitchen.

A practical checklist before buying
- Minimum batch: Confirm the smallest amount of the rice or grain you cook, using the cooker’s own cup measurement.
- Capacity and grain: Check the maximum raw capacity for the specific grain you plan to prepare; the white-rice rating may not apply to other grains.
- Menus: Look for dedicated settings only when they match your routine, such as Jasmine White, long-grain white, steel-cut oatmeal, porridge or rinse-free rice.
- Keep-warm, reheat and timer: Decide whether you need food held warm, reheating, or a delay timer; these functions vary by model.
- Cleaning: Check which parts detach for washing. For example, the NS-LGC05 lists a detachable washable inner lid and removable steam vent cap.
- Counter and storage: Compare width, depth and height with the space available, including room to open the lid. The listed Zojirushi compact models measure 9-1/8 × 11-7/8 × 7-1/2 inches.
- Technology: Treat Micom and induction heating as design and feature descriptions, not a substitute for evidence of cooking performance.
- Ownership details: Check the current price and stock, warranty terms, and availability of a replacement inner pan for the exact model number before purchasing.
