There is no evidence here to support ranking specific plasma air purifiers as “best.” Plasma-branded cleaners can produce ozone and other byproducts, and plasma technology alone does not establish particle-removal performance. For smoke and other airborne particles, compare room-sized mechanical air cleaners by smoke Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR), and treat air cleaning as one part of improving indoor air—not a replacement for source control or ventilation.
What a plasma air purifier does—and what the name does not tell you
Plasma air cleaners are electronic air-cleaning devices. Their operating principles and emissions can vary by product and conditions; “plasma” on a label is not a standardized performance rating. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warns that plasma cleaners, ionizers, and electrostatic precipitators may emit ozone. Its technical guidance also identifies possible byproducts from plasma air cleaners, including particles, ozone, carbon monoxide, and formaldehyde. These are potential emissions, not a claim that every unit produces every byproduct or does so at the same level. EPA: Guide to Air Cleaners in the Home
Ion generators, one related electronic technology, charge particles so they settle on nearby surfaces. Some devices use a collector to capture charged particles, but without one, particles can accumulate on walls, floors, and furnishings and later become airborne again. EPA says ion generators do not remove gases or odors, may be relatively ineffective for larger particles such as pollen and house-dust allergens, and have not been shown in controlled studies to deliver the proposed benefit of correcting an indoor ion imbalance. EPA: What are ionizers and other ozone generating air cleaners?
Why ozone matters indoors
Ozone is a lung irritant, not a reliable way to clean occupied indoor air. EPA states: “Available scientific evidence shows that at concentrations that do not exceed public health standards, ozone has little potential to remove indoor air contaminants.” It also says concentrations would have to greatly exceed health standards to remove most indoor contaminants; reactions with indoor chemicals can create irritating or corrosive byproducts. An odor becoming less noticeable is not proof that its source has been removed. EPA advises against using ozone generators in occupied spaces. EPA: Ozone Generators that are Sold as Air Cleaners

For devices covered by California’s air-cleaner regulation, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) sets an ozone-emissions limit of 0.050 parts per million (ppm) and requires testing and labeling. This is a regulatory emissions threshold—not a measure of cleaning effectiveness or a guarantee of harmlessness in every use situation. The rule exempts devices using only mechanical filtration from ozone testing because their emissions are considered de minimis. CARB: Regulation for Limiting Ozone Emissions from Air Cleaning Devices
CARB certification can help check ozone emissions and electrical safety for covered devices sold in California. It does not show that a cleaner has strong particle-removal performance. Check the current CARB-certified air-cleaning device list and the product label, then assess particle performance separately using CADR.

How to choose an air cleaner for particles
Start with mechanical filtration for smoke
For smoke particles, EPA favors mechanical filtration: higher-efficiency filters trap particles without producing ozone. EPA does not recommend electronic cleaners for smoke removal because their effectiveness is unclear and they may produce ozone. A HEPA air purifier is a mechanical-filtration option to consider for particle removal; it is not a plasma device. EPA: Indoor Air Filtration
Match smoke CADR to the room
CADR estimates how quickly an air cleaner can remove particles from air. EPA recommends choosing a cleaner sized for the room where it will operate. Smoke CADR is especially useful when comparing particle cleaners because smoke is the smallest of the three common particle categories used for CADR ratings. A room-size recommendation and a high CADR indicate particle-cleaning capacity; neither establishes that a device is ozone-safe. EPA: Guide to Air Cleaners in the Home

- ADVANCED AIR CLEANING TECH: Combines a HEPA-13 filter that captures 99.97% of dust, pollen, smoke, mold, & other ultrafine impurities, combined with Plasma Ion Technology that projects positive and negative ions in the air allowing you to breathe easy.
- CLEAN AIR IN MINUTES: Filters up to 1,140 SQFT per hour, to exchange 228 SQFT 5 times per hour, allowing you to breathe cleaner air in minutes, based on 3rd party testing.
- AUTO MODE: Automatically senses the air quality and adjusts the fan speed according to detected quality. Digital read out of % air quality and light band indicates when air quality is good-white, okay-orange, or poor-red, and adjusts to get back to good.
- ODOR REDUCER: Activated carbon filter layer helps decreasing unpleasant smells, allowing your rooms or office space to be refreshed.
- WHISPER-QUIET: Light sensor automatically turns off displays and lowers noise to whisper-quiet levels when it is time for bed.
Check the exact device and its upkeep
- Identify the actual technology: mechanical filtration, ionization, electrostatic precipitation, plasma, UV, or ozone generation. Do not infer safety or effectiveness from “plasma” branding alone.
- For an electronic cleaner covered by CARB rules, verify the exact model on CARB’s current list and check its label. Certification is not a substitute for CADR.
- Before buying, confirm the exact model’s filter replacement interval, compatible replacement part, and replacement cost. These details vary by model; do not assume a generic filter will fit.
What an air cleaner can—and cannot—fix
Air cleaning is an adjunct to source control and ventilation, not a complete solution to indoor air-quality problems. Reduce or remove pollution sources where possible, ventilate appropriately, and address moisture and mold at their source. A purifier cannot substitute for correcting an ongoing source of contaminants. EPA: Guide to Air Cleaners in the Home
