What “modal towel” means
It does not necessarily mean a towel made entirely from modal. The reviewed listings are cotton-modal blends, with modal making up 17% to 27% where percentages are specified. For example, Frontgate lists 80% zero-twist Turkish cotton and 20% modal, while Target lists 73% cotton and 27% modal. Yves Delorme’s Etoile and Rameau collections each list 83% organic cotton and 17% modal.
Lenzing, the maker of TENCEL™ Modal fibers, says those fibers in home fabrics are exceptionally soft and efficiently absorb moisture. It also says they remain soft over time and can withstand repeated wash-and-dry cycles. These examples are based on product listings, not hands-on testing. Retailer descriptions such as “plush,” “absorbent” or “quick drying” should be read as seller claims rather than independently verified results.

How to choose the right towel
Check the blend
Look for the stated percentages and cotton type. A product name alone may not reveal how much modal it contains—or whether the listing gives percentages at all.
Use GSM as one specification, not a quality score
GSM means grams per square metre and describes fabric weight. The examples range from 450 to 720 GSM, but these listings do not establish an ideal weight or show that heavier towels necessarily feel softer, absorb more or take longer to dry. Consider weight alongside construction, care directions and your own preference.

Compare size and construction
Check the dimensions of the specific towel. Frontgate lists its bath towel at 30 × 58 inches; another listing may offer different sizes or a bath sheet. Retailers’ hand-feel descriptions can help you shortlist options, but they are not standardized comparisons.
Follow the product’s care label
Care instructions can differ by towel. Yves Delorme’s Rameau listing specifies a normal wash at 100°F/40°C and tumble drying at moderate heat. For any other product, follow the care label supplied with that towel.

The available listings establish that cotton-modal bath towels are sold in multiple blends and weights. They do not establish which one is objectively best, whether a listed blend outperforms a comparable cotton towel in a controlled test, or which towel will feel best to you. Choose based on the disclosed specifications and the qualities you prioritize rather than assuming modal guarantees a particular result.
