For the Mohawk floating-floor systems covered by its instructions, the recommended joint adhesive is Performance Accessories Tongue & Groove D3 Rated Floating Floor Glue. That is not a universal recommendation for every tongue-and-groove floor: check the installation guide for your exact flooring model before choosing glue. The right product depends on whether you are gluing plank joints, bonding flooring to the subfloor, or installing a spline.
Which glue should you use?
Match the adhesive to both the flooring product and the job it must do. The cited Mohawk instructions recommend a specific D3-rated glue for joints in floating installations. That guidance does not establish compatibility with other brands or models.
Mohawk’s floating-floor instructions name “Performance Accessory Tongue & Groove D3 Rated Floating Floor Glue” in one guide; its TecWood instructions use “Accessories” in the product name. Follow the name and directions in the guide for your own floor. See Mohawk’s floating installation instructions and Mohawk TecWood Installation Instructions.
First identify where the adhesive goes
“Tongue-and-groove flooring glue” can refer to different applications. Glue for plank joints is not interchangeable with adhesive spread beneath flooring to bond it to the subfloor.

| Installation method | Where the adhesive goes | What the cited guidance establishes |
|---|---|---|
| Floating floor with glued joints | At the plank’s tongue-and-groove joints | Mohawk names its D3-rated floating-floor glue for the systems covered by its instructions and specifies the bead placement below. |
| Glue-down flooring | Between the flooring and the subfloor | Pergo’s hardwood installation guide lists suitable wood-flooring adhesive and a B11 glue trowel as supplies. This is a different use from gluing plank joints. |
| Spline (slip-tongue) operation | In the groove where a spline joins boards | Bruce’s solid hardwood installation guide describes wood glue in the groove, then gluing and nailing the spline in a center-start procedure. It does not establish wood glue as the general choice for floating-floor joints. |
How to apply the Mohawk floating-floor joint glue
Use these directions only when they match the installation instructions for your flooring model. Mohawk specifies a 3/32-inch bead along the topside of the groove and the bottom side of the tongue, for the full length of side and end joints. Do not fill the groove: excess glue can make it difficult to close the seam tightly. The bead size and placement are Mohawk installation directions, not a universal rule for all flooring.

- Find the exact manufacturer and product line on the flooring packaging or paperwork.
- Confirm whether the guide calls for a floating installation with glued joints, glue-down installation, or a spline procedure.
- Use an adhesive the flooring manufacturer approves for that exact product and bond location.
- Follow the specified application method, including bead or trowel instructions and cleanup directions.
The cited guidance does not establish a universal brand ranking, nor does it provide verified current prices, coverage, or retailer availability. Check the applicable product guide and current technical information rather than choosing by the words “wood glue” or “flooring glue” alone.
