- Charging conditions: Check whether the intended placement receives direct, useful daylight and note the maker’s stated charge time.
- Runtime: Treat “up to” hours as a product claim tied to a full charge, not a guaranteed nightly duration. Weather, season, shade, and charging conditions matter.
- Weather suitability: Look for the specific outdoor suitability information provided for the model. Do not assume all solar disks tolerate the same exposure.
- Mounting and materials: Check whether stakes are removable, whether the unit sits flush or protrudes, and what the housing is made from.
- Light output and role: Confirm that the maker provides output information suitable for your task. A decorative accent should not be treated as a substitute for area or security lighting without supporting evidence.
- Warranty: Check the current product listing or documentation for warranty terms; the cited listings do not establish a comparable warranty.
Hardwired LED disk fixtures
Hardwired disks serve a different job: ceiling lighting for areas such as closets, storage spaces, attics, corridors, and other residential or commercial spaces. - Lumens and watts: Lumens indicate light output; watts indicate electrical power use. Assess both for the task and compare only like-for-like fixtures.
- Color temperature: The listed Westgate examples offer 2700 K and 4000 K. Choose the appearance appropriate to the space rather than assuming one is universally better.
- CRI and dimming: Check the model’s color-rendering information and whether its dimming method is compatible with the installed control. A series-level dimming statement does not guarantee compatibility with every dimmer.
- Location rating: Match the exact fixture rating to the real exposure. A damp-location label should not be taken to mean direct rain exposure is permitted.

Does “energy efficient” mean lower bills?

For hardwired lighting, consider light output alongside wattage and use only as much light as the task needs. The U.S. Department of Energy’s LED Outdoor Area Lighting Fact Sheet warns that overlighting wastes energy and may reduce visibility by forcing the eye to adapt between brighter and darker areas. It also emphasizes appropriate environmental ratings and the long-term reliability of gaskets and seals.
