In a September 25, 2024 report, Consumer Reports said all 10 dressers that passed its tests were manufactured after September 1, 2023. It also reported that older units continued to be sold and that product listings and labels often did not clearly state manufacturing dates. That finding describes the tested dressers and the market situation reported in 2024; it does not establish that every dresser currently sold is compliant. Gabe Knight, a safety policy analyst at Consumer Reports, said on September 25, 2024: “It is encouraging to see that the law is working and that new dressers are meeting the tip-over standard.” He added, “But some retailers are still selling furniture that doesn’t meet the new stability requirements.” The comments appeared in the context of older inventory remaining in circulation.
