How to choose cordless pruning shears
Start with the plants and branch sizes in your garden, then compare weight, battery kit, safety controls and ongoing support. A maker’s maximum diameter is a specification, not a promise that every branch of that size will cut equally easily: wood species, age and condition matter.
- Match capacity to the work. Check the stated maximum diameter against the stems you routinely prune. For branches beyond a hand pruner’s stated capacity, consider a pruning saw or pole tool rather than forcing the cut.
- Compare weight in use. A listed tool weight may not include the battery. Check what the figure covers and consider where the battery sits, since balance affects comfort over repeated cuts.
- Check the complete battery kit. Confirm whether the battery and charger are included. A bare tool may be convenient if you already own a compatible battery, but it is not a complete setup otherwise.
- Read cut-count claims in context. Counts depend on battery capacity and test conditions, including wood type and diameter. They are not directly comparable when manufacturers use different methods or omit the conditions.
- Consider ownership and safety. Review the manual and safety controls, warranty terms, access to service, and availability of replacement blades and parts before buying.

What the published cut counts do—and do not—tell you
FELCO says its 2e can make “up to 3 000 cuts per battery charge,” but its product page does not state the wood type or diameter behind that figure. Einhell’s 2025 catalog gives a defined test material—round, dry beech, 15 mm in diameter—and ties its cut counts to battery capacity. Those conditions make Einhell’s figures more specific, but they still cannot be compared directly with FELCO’s claim because the latter’s test conditions are not stated.

Treat both as manufacturer claims, not guaranteed results for your garden. Branch size, wood condition and battery capacity can affect how many cuts a charge delivers.
How the models differ in practice
FELCO 2e: a bundled battery kit
FELCO’s stated kit includes a battery and charging cable along with conductive gloves, grease spray and a user guide. Its 27 mm maximum diameter is slightly below the 28 mm figures listed for the RYOBI and Einhell models; that one-millimetre difference alone does not establish which tool will perform better on real branches. Check the manufacturer’s product details for the kit and regional terms.

The cited UK page does not establish the weight or whether a battery and charger come with every listing, so check the exact model and bundle available where you live.
Einhell GE-LS 18 Li: capacity-dependent catalog figures
Einhell’s 2025 garden catalog specifies a 28 mm maximum branch diameter and a 0.8 kg tool weight, and lists the tool without a battery or charger. Its cut-count table varies by battery capacity under the stated 15 mm dry-beech test. If you do not already own a compatible battery and charger, factor those into the complete setup.

When a hand pruner is not the right tool
Cordless hand shears are intended for pruning tasks within their stated capacity. If you need greater reach or routinely cut thicker limbs, a pruning saw or pole pruner is a different tool category and may suit the work better.
