BLACK+DECKER LD120VA

Best Cordless Drill Under $75: What to Buy and What to Check

The BLACK+DECKER LD120VA is a candidate for occasional home projects, but check the current price, kit contents, 3/8-inch chuck, and 1.5Ah battery before buying.

The BLACK+DECKER LD120VA is a plausible cordless drill kit under $75 for occasional household jobs: RenovateCost listed it at about $59 in an August 2026 price check. That is a dated price, not a current offer, and its reported 3/8-inch chuck and single 1.5Ah battery make it a better fit for light work than larger-bit drilling or extended sessions. Confirm the current price and exactly what the listing includes before buying.

What the under-$75 pick offers

RenovateCost’s review, published June 12, 2026 and updated August 31, 2026, reported an August 2026 price check of approximately $59 for the BLACK+DECKER LD120VA kit. The review describes it as suited to occasional household tasks. It also reports a 20V label, 300 UWO, a 3/8-inch chuck, and one 1.5Ah battery. UWO is the figure as reported by that review; it should not be converted into inch-pounds or treated as an independent performance test. Read RenovateCost’s LD120VA review.

The 3/8-inch chuck accepts many common household bits, but a 1/2-inch chuck accommodates larger bits. The single, relatively small included battery is a practical constraint if you expect long work sessions. If the price has risen, or the listing omits the battery or charger, compare the complete purchase cost with other kits rather than relying on the tool’s headline price.

Choose by the work, not the voltage label

A voltage rating alone does not tell you whether a drill is right for your jobs. Consider the chuck size, clutch, speed settings, battery capacity, kit contents, and workload together. National Hardware Group’s guide describes compact 12V drills as suitable for light work and tight spaces, while 18V/20V-max tools are all-rounders for broader home projects. See National Hardware Group’s drill buying guide.

DEWALT 20V Max XR Drill Driver, Battery and Charger (DCD771C2)
  • Lightweight design fits into tight areas
  • High performance motor delivers 300 unit watts out (UWO) of power ability completing a wide range of applications
  • High speed transmission delivers two speeds (0-450 & 1,500 rpm) for a range of fastening and drilling applications
  • 1/2' single sleeve ratcheting chuck provides tight bit gripping strength. Ergonomic handle delivers comfort and control
  • Occasional household jobs: Furniture assembly, hanging shelves, and basic hole drilling are the kind of work for which an entry-level kit may make sense.
  • Repeated or extended work: Look closely at battery capacity, spare-battery cost, and whether the tool is sold with a usable battery and charger. A smaller included battery may mean more interruptions.
  • Larger bits: Check the chuck’s capacity against the bits you expect to use. A 3/8-inch chuck is adequate for many basic tasks; a 1/2-inch chuck accommodates larger bits.
  • Controlled screw driving: An adjustable clutch helps reduce the chance of driving screws too far, while variable speed and two speed ranges help balance screw driving and drilling. Verify these features on the exact model rather than assuming they come with a voltage class.

Decide whether you need hammer action

A standard drill/driver is the default for household drilling and controlled screw driving. A hammer drill adds a forward-punching action for masonry; an impact driver instead applies rotational impacts and is less suited to precise drilling. For regular drilling into brick, block, or concrete, hammer action can be useful. For wood or metal, it adds weight without a benefit. National Hardware Group puts the buying threshold this way: “Only go up to a hammer drill if you regularly drill into brick or concrete, and only drop to a compact 12V if lightweight one-handed work is all you do.”

Check the listing before you buy

  1. Confirm the exact model. Make sure the product is the LD120VA, not a similarly named drill or a bare tool.
  2. Check the box contents. Verify whether the listing includes a battery and charger, and note the battery capacity. Tool-only listings can look inexpensive but are not ready to use if you do not already own a compatible battery.
  3. Compare the current total price. Treat the approximately $59 figure as RenovateCost’s August 2026 snapshot, not a guaranteed price or offer. Retail price and availability change.
  4. Match the tool to your bits and workload. Check the chuck capacity and the included battery against the jobs and session length you expect.

The available product claims come from a secondary review, and the buying guidance comes from a retailer-published guide. They do not establish an independently verified, head-to-head test of this drill against competing models.
