Keep your hands out of the chamber. Use the wrench opening on the bottom to free a jam, remove any loose object with tongs or pliers, let the motor cool for 3–5 minutes, then press the red reset button. If it still will not run, check the circuit breaker or fuse; persistent failure calls for qualified service.
Before troubleshooting: switch off the disposer and water
Turn off the disposer at its wall switch and stop the water before attempting to clear a jam. Keep the switch off while using the wrench. Never put your hand into the disposal chamber, even when the unit appears stopped. InSinkErator’s jam-clearing guidance directs users to work from the bottom of the unit and use tongs or pliers for loose objects.
How to free a jammed Badger 100
- Find the wrench opening. Locate the center hole on the bottom of the disposer.
- Work the jam loose. Insert one end of the supplied Jam-Buster wrench into the hole and move it back and forth until the wrench turns one full revolution. Remove the wrench before restoring power. This is the procedure in the Badger 100 manual.
- Remove any loose object safely. With the disposer still switched off, use tongs or pliers to lift out visible loose material. Do not reach in by hand.
The Badger 100 product page lists a jam-buster wrenchette as included. If yours is missing, InSinkErator support identifies a standard 1/4-inch Allen wrench as an alternative; the manufacturer does not establish compatibility for every other wrench. How to reset the Badger 100
After freeing the jam, let the motor cool for 3–5 minutes. Then lightly press the red reset button on the bottom of the disposer, as directed in the Badger manual. The model uses manual-reset overload protection, according to InSinkErator’s 2025 specifications sheet. Do not keep pressing the button if the unit continues to fail.

If it is still stopped or will not restart
If the disposer remains inoperative after the jam-clearing and reset steps, check your home’s service panel for a tripped circuit breaker or blown fuse. If restoring the circuit does not resolve the problem, stop troubleshooting and contact InSinkErator support or a qualified service professional. The manufacturer’s instructions do not establish a particular cause for a unit that remains inoperative, so avoid opening the unit or attempting internal electrical repairs.

Warranty terms differ among official Badger 100 documents: the current product page and 2025 specifications sheet list a two-year limited service or in-home warranty, while an older manual includes one-year wording. Check the warranty supplied with your disposer and the terms that apply to your market and purchase date rather than assuming one term applies to every unit.
