The tub may inflate in a couple of minutes, but getting to a hot soak involves hundreds of litres of water, compatible heating and recirculation equipment, and substantially more time. Joolca’s setup guide estimates roughly 1.5–3 hours to heat the water, depending on its starting temperature.
What the two-minute claim means
Joolca describes the empty HOTTUB as inflating “in a couple of minutes.” That is the inflation step, not the time from unpacking to a ready hot soak. A soak also requires filling the tub and, for hot water, connecting compatible heating and recirculation equipment. Joolca’s current HOTTUB product page says the HOTTAP v2 and an off-grid plumbing kit are needed for heating and recirculation; the tub has no built-in heater.
Joolca’s product page advertises filling and heating to soaking temperature in under two hours when connected to a HOTTAP v2. Its setup guide, however, estimates about 1.5–3 hours to heat the water, depending on its starting temperature. Treat these as manufacturer estimates, not a guaranteed setup time: conditions and the starting water temperature matter.
How much water and space it takes
Joolca lists approximately 300 L (about 80 US gal) of water for two people, or 350 L (about 92 US gal) for one. That is a major water-supply and campsite-planning requirement, not a small top-up from a typical camping container. Check local rules and access before planning to draw from a natural source, and confirm that draining the tub is allowed where you camp.

According to Joolca’s HOTTUB specifications, updated November 21, 2024, the tub weighs 15 kg (33 lb) and packs to 760 × 440 × 280 mm (30 × 17.3 × 11 in). Inflated, it measures 920 × 1950 × 510 mm (36.2 × 76.7 × 20 in). Those manufacturer-listed dimensions and weight make it more suited to a vehicle-accessible base camp than a trip where gear must be carried in a backpack.
What comes with the tub—and what does not
Joolca lists the package contents as the tub, insulated cover, manual pump, repair kit, and carry bag. The HOTTAP v2 and off-grid plumbing kit are required for the heating and recirculation setup described on the product page; do not assume they are included when buying the tub alone. Confirm the current kit and compatibility details with Joolca before purchasing.

For setup, Joolca’s guide recommends inflating the tub to 3 PSI. It describes filling the tub, connecting the pump and HOTTAP hoses for recirculation, then draining and packing it after use. Follow the current guide for the specific equipment configuration rather than treating the two-minute inflation claim as a complete setup procedure.

“Backcountry” can mean anything from a drive-in remote site to a long walk from the trailhead. The HOTTUB makes the most sense in the first case: a vehicle can carry the 15 kg packed tub and associated equipment, while a reliable source of several hundred litres of water is available at camp. For backpacking, both the tub’s packed weight and its water demand make it impractical.

Joolca also describes the tub as usable for a cold plunge or ice bath. That avoids the heating step, but not the need to transport or responsibly source and dispose of a large volume of water. Plan around campsite drainage rules and local restrictions rather than assuming nearby water can be used freely.
