Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallIf super glue has cured between your scissors’ blades, work on the metal with a small amount of a suitable remover, then gently clear the softened residue. Keep solvent off plastic handles and coatings, and don’t force or scrape toward the cutting edge. The right option depends on the scissors’ materials; none of the methods below is guaranteed for every pair.
Start by checking what the scissors are made of
Before applying anything, identify whether the handles or blade surfaces are plastic-coated, painted, or otherwise likely to be solvent-sensitive. You’ll want to confine any treatment to the metal blades and the glued joint. If you can’t keep a product off vulnerable parts, skip that product rather than risk damaging the scissors.
Work in a well-ventilated area, follow the product label, and keep flammable products away from flames, sparks, and other ignition sources. Loctite notes that acetone is highly flammable and may damage some plastics; the maker of The Original Super Glue Corporation remover likewise warns that its product may attack some plastics and recommends testing first. Loctite’s general super glue cleanup guidance and the remover maker’s directions are not scissors-specific repair tests.
Choose a cautious way to soften the glue
Loctite lists acetone, boiling water, and careful cutting with a sharp blade as options for cured adhesive. The Original Super Glue Corporation also describes using its purpose-made remover on cured glue. These are general cleanup options, not proven fixes for every scissor design. Choose based on whether you can isolate the metal and follow the product directions safely.

- Not suitable for some hard plastics such as ABS, check compatibility first
| Option | What the source says | Key caution |
|---|---|---|
| Purpose-made super glue remover | The Original Super Glue Corporation says to apply its remover, allow it to penetrate, then rub, brush, or sand away softened adhesive; repeat for thick buildup. Product directions. | The maker warns that it may attack some plastics and recommends testing first. Keep it on metal only if possible. |
| Acetone | Loctite lists acetone as an option for cleaning cured super glue. Loctite guidance. | It may damage some plastics and is highly flammable. Do not assume every nail polish remover contains acetone. |
| Boiling water | Loctite lists boiling water as a cleanup option for cured adhesive. Loctite guidance. | Scissors-specific compatibility and results are not established. Consider whether heat or water could harm handles, coatings, or the joint. |
| Careful mechanical removal | Loctite lists cautious cutting with a sharp blade as an option for cured adhesive. Loctite guidance. | Work slowly and away from the cutting edge; forcing or slipping can damage the blades or cause injury. |
Apply the remover without forcing the blades
- Protect the scissors and work surface. Keep the handles and any coating clear of the chosen product. Use only a small amount on the metal at the glued joint, and observe the label’s safety directions.
- Give the product time to work. For a dedicated remover, follow its label; the maker says to allow penetration and repeat for thick buildup. Don’t pry the blades apart while the glue is still holding them.
- Clear softened residue gently. Use the remover maker’s suggested rubbing or brushing approach. If using careful mechanical removal, avoid pushing a blade toward the scissors’ cutting edge. Do not force the joint.
- Check movement before cutting. Once the blades are free, clear remaining softened residue in small increments. Open and close the scissors gently to confirm they move freely before using them.
When to stop and replace the scissors
If the handles or coatings are solvent-sensitive, the blades appear damaged, or the joint remains stuck after cautious treatment, replacement may be more practical than risking further damage. The glue amount, blade finish, handle material, and exact product formulation all affect the outcome, and no scissors-specific test results establish that any method will work on every pair.
