Bloomberg reported in 2015 that it sold for more than €275 million—about $301 million at the time—and described the buyer then only as a Middle Eastern purchaser. Le Figaro later identified Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman as the owner. The often-repeated $320 million figure is not supported by the contemporaneous sale report cited here.
Where is Château Louis XIV?
The estate is in Louveciennes, in the Yvelines department of the Paris region, between Versailles and Marly-le-Roi. AFP reported that its park covers 23 hectares and that the residence has about 5,000 square metres of living area. These are figures reported for this property, not a current survey or independent valuation. Bloomberg and Le Figaro place the estate in the context of its sale and later reported ownership.
Is Château Louis XIV actually historic?
No. Despite its name and historic appearance, the château is a modern construction, developed by Cogemad and built over about three years, according to Bloomberg’s 2015 report citing the developer’s website. It was designed in the style of the French 17th-century château tradition; it should not be confused with an original residence from Louis XIV’s reign. Bloomberg and Le Figaro describe the property and its setting.
What is reported to be inside the estate?
Bloomberg’s account, drawing on Cogemad’s website, listed an aquarium, a cinema, a wine cellar and an outdoor fountain covered in gold leaf. The developer also described grounds with parterres, flowers, marble statues, bridle paths and a hedged labyrinth. Those details come from reporting on the developer’s description, rather than a firsthand inspection or independent assessment.

Cogemad’s garden copy, reproduced by Bloomberg, said the gardens “evoke the genius of Le Notre.” That is the developer’s promotional characterization, not an independent appraisal of the landscape.
Who owns Château Louis XIV, and what did it sell for?
Ownership identification and sale-price reporting came at different times. Bloomberg reported in December 2015 that the private sale was for more than €275 million, then approximately $301 million, citing two unnamed people familiar with the transaction. The report described the buyer as an unnamed Middle Eastern purchaser. It said Christie’s International Real Estate helped broker the deal; Cogemad and Christie’s declined to comment at the time. In 2017, Le Figaro identified Mohammed bin Salman, Saudi Arabia’s crown prince, as the owner and reported that the estate had been sold in September 2015. Because the transaction was private and these accounts rely on journalistic sourcing, the careful wording is that he was identified in later reporting as the owner—not that a public deed has been reviewed here. The available reports do not establish a present-day valuation, a current title record, or any ownership change after Le Figaro’s 2017 account. They also do not establish a peer-sales dataset that would support an unqualified claim that the château was the world’s most expensive home. Its reported 2015 sale price is not a current estimate of value.
