The company says its unmodified marble queen pothos, custom planter and monthly microbial drops remove certain volatile organic compounds (VOCs) at up to 30 times the rate of regular plants when measured by Clean Air Delivery Rate normalized by plant weight. That is a manufacturer-reported laboratory performance comparison, not proof that a pothos will make a home’s air 30 times cleaner.
What does “up to 30X” compare?
Neoplants’ product page describes Neo PX as up to 30 times better than regular plants at depolluting benzene, toluene and xylene—often grouped as BTX compounds. The company says the comparison uses Clean Air Delivery Rate normalized by the weight of the plant (CADRw). This is a rate-per-weight comparison, not a claim that a room becomes 30 times cleaner or that the plant replaces an air purifier. Neoplants’ product page presents the figure as its own product claim.
The distinction matters: the claim is tied to one designed system, a specified metric and selected pollutants. It does not establish that a standard marble queen pothos, other houseplants or all indoor air contaminants receive the same treatment.
What is included in the Neo PX system?
Neo PX is described as a combination of an unmodified marble queen pothos, potting soil, a system-specific planter and microbial Power Drops. New Atlas reported that the drops contain a selected strain of Pseudomonas putida; the company describes the planter’s Shell as designed to enhance airflow. These pieces are intended to work together, so buying a pothos alone is not buying the claimed system. What the microbes are meant to do
The product descriptions say the microbial treatment targets benzene, toluene and xylene. The company’s linked white paper discusses two strains—Pseudomonas putida and Methylobacterium extorquens—and includes formaldehyde alongside BTX compounds. These descriptions have different scopes: the current product page and New Atlas account name BTX, while the white paper covers a broader set of compounds. How strong is the evidence behind the claim?
Neoplants’ white paper describes company-run biochemical assays, 35-liter flow-through chambers, tests under near-real-life laboratory conditions, comparisons across houseplant species and longevity testing. This provides context about how the manufacturer says it evaluated the system, but the paper is a company publication. The sources available here do not establish independent replication of the 30X result.

That means readers can accurately say Neoplants reports a laboratory-based, plant-weight-normalized advantage for its system. They cannot treat “30X” as an independently confirmed outcome in a typical home, or assume it predicts a particular room’s air quality. Room conditions and household pollutant levels vary, and the cited materials do not establish a guaranteed household result.
How Neo PX differs from Neo P1
Neo PX should not be confused with Neoplants’ earlier Neo P1 concept. A 2023 New Atlas report described Neo P1 as a genetically engineered pothos project. The 2024 report describes Neo PX as using an unmodified marble queen pothos with a microbial formulation. What upkeep does the system require?
Neoplants recommends adding Power Drops monthly. Its product page describes watering about every three weeks in winter and every two weeks in summer, with a built-in reservoir. These are manufacturer care recommendations; actual watering needs can depend on the plant’s conditions. Monthly dosing is part of the product’s maintenance, rather than an optional detail of the 30X comparison.
What did the product cost and was it available?
When Neoplants’ product page was accessed on October 7, 2026, it showed a $99 subscription option and a $119 one-time purchase, listed US-only shipping and displayed “Out of stock.” The subscription listing included quarterly refill and plant-replacement terms. New Atlas reported different pricing in 2024: $119 for the package and a $39 quarterly subscription after an included six-month supply. Those are historical terms, not the later product-page snapshot.

New Atlas reported that Neoplants considers the supplied components optimized as a system and does not guarantee results when components are replaced. The available sources do not establish that adding the drops to an ordinary pothos in a different pot delivers the same performance. A “marble queen pothos plant” by itself is not the Neo PX system and does not carry its system-level claim.
